First came the X-Men to the cinemas, then Spider-Man...and the rest of the Marvel Universe followed one-by-one. As the Marvel action-flicks came and grew into several money-making franchises, I began to wonder...will there ever be a multi-crossover flick between these comic-book titans brought to life?

Back in 2008, after the end of the smash-hit Iron Man, it seemed very possible that the foundations had now been laid for an actual Cinematic Marvel Universe, with a proper continuity to link several films together. This was then corroborated with The Incredible Hulk, which featured Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark guest-starring in said-film. A character from a Paramount Film transcending to a Universal Pictures Production?! It was unheard of!

And now, after great movies like Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger building up much anticipation for a long-awaited Avengers film, it FINALLY came. Four years in the making, The Avengers (or rather Avengers Assemble here in the UK) debuted on screens in 2012.

Closely following the original premise of the Marvel Comics (way back in 1963), and Brian Michael Bendis' Ultimate Marvel stories, The Avengers' plot follows on directly from the events of Thor & Captain America. The menacing Loki (deliciously portrayed by Tom Hiddleston) has returned to Earth with his sights set on the powerful, mystical artefact known as the Tesseract. After Loki's initial assault promises more devastation against the Earth, it falls to S.H.I.E.L.D. and its Director, Nick Fury (the one-and-only Samuel L. Jackson) to rally the most extraordinary people imaginable to save the world from disaster.

It's time for the long-awaited Avengers Initiative.

Scenes edited, extras missing all because they rushed the UK release. Other European countries get this unedited.

Please please buy the US version which will work on your UK PS3 or Bluray player. Unedited & all the extras.

When we the public were being primed for the introduction of Blu-Ray, one of the primary benefits of the greater capacity in relation to DVD was that there would be access to far more features and extras such as directors commentarys; yes they were going to be considerably more expensive than DVD but you got so much more for your money, it wasn't just better sound and audio.

However, here we see despite the significantly higher premium over DVD, this Blu-Ray offers zero extras, not because they're not available or won't fit on the disc, but because Disney know many individuals will have been waiting for this disc and will pre-order, unaware of the omissions, and of course Disney will then release a 'Special Edition' including everything they should include now.

The sad fact is that many enthusiasts will end up buying both Blu-Rays, and it's this disgraceful attitude towards the UK and all markets except the US which means I never buy new Blu-Rays anymore, preferring to buy them used on Amazon.

And the studios wonder why there's such a massive market for pirated films? It's because you're a bunch of greedy, self-serving entities that's why.

I have to say I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be. Sure, it's a pretty spectacular movie with the right script, the right cast, the right director, yada yada yada, but I still can't shake the feeling that it was hyped up to be a lot more than it actually was. It probably doesn't help that I saw The Dark Knight Rises before seeing The Avengers as I was so completely mind blown by that I don't think that another film will live up to the high bar that TDKR has set up in my brain.

Now before I write this review, I have something to admit. I haven't seen The Incredible Hulk or Iron Man or Thor or read any Marvel Comics about any of the characters mentioned in this film. The only film that I had seen was Captain America, because let's face it, Chris Evans is super hot. I was worried that I perhaps wouldn't quite understand all of the characters or what was going on in this film but you don't really any need superhero movie knowledge prior to watching this film. I was also worried that perhaps the combination of so many brilliant characters would be an onscreen disaster rather than masterpiece, but thankfully it was the latter.

I had been putting off watching The Avengers for a number of reasons, primarily because I hate Robert Downey Jr. and anything to do with Iron Man, which, incidentally, I haven't even seen. I'm not really sure why, but I just really don't like him as an actor and the Iron Man movies never really appealed to me. However, after having seen The Avengers movie, I am now a pretty big fan of Robert Downey Jr and he is definitely my favourite Avenger.

The other actors in the Avengers were also brilliant. The brilliant thing about all the actors in this film is that they were all so versatile.

I paid to see the movie in cinema and I really loved it. As with everything else I really like I have no problem whatsoever to part with my money to watch it whenever I like but the way entertainment industry is doing these releases is just begging for it. They want me to fork out £25 for the disc with no extras only to release 'Director's cut' a few months later followed by 'Special Edition' followed by 'Never before seen footage' etc. You know what... stuff that crap. If they want my money they will have to give me a fair deal and this is not a fair deal at all. Until I get what I want I will just not let them rip me of so lets see who will run out of patience sooner. There are countless torrents out there so until we get a fair deal... happy downloading.
