2.0 out of 5 stars No good, but worked for the kid 30 April 2012
I got this book on offer, and I'm glad that I didn't pay full price for it.

As an avid comic book movie fan, and a huge fan of The Avengers, I thought if nothing else I might enjoy the small details that book adaptations usually add. Unfortunately, there is nothing substantial in here. There are details left out in favour of hurrying the plot along, and it is not truly the book of the film "Avengers Assemble" - it is a book containing several short stories that tell you blandly every Marvel film leading up to the Avengers. We begin with a boring retelling of the events of Captain America summed up in few words and with absolutely no emotion. It is followed by a two page summary of the Hulk movie, then Iron Man, then Thor, etc.

We don't get to the actual Avengers story until page 129 of a book that is 169 pages. Even at that it is boring and badly written. For example, here is a brief extract from Iron Man;

""Call for a press conference? What on earth for?" Pepper asked, still arguing with her boss." - This style is amateur. I'm not a professional, but even I know that we shouldn't have to be told that Pepper is "still arguing with her boss". It's fairly evident in the dialogue. Stop telling me, show me!

There was another line somewhere through the book that had Loki say something "evilly". That's just lazy, no two ways about it. Loki is mischievous, Loki is provocative, Loki is dangerous...but to say that he's evil is just wrong. The movies have given us more backstory than that. To say that he said something "evilly" ? Just have him act a bit sinister and leave the adverb out, we can fill in the way he said it ourselves.

That said, I gave the book three stars for a reason.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good story: For the bit you get. 8 April 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is well presented and tells each of the avenger's (bar Hawkeye and Black widow) origins, and details these very well. There's conscious font changes for Thor to make him more mythical, but although this is a nice touch It can often be hard to read. You start to connect to all these characters, and you enter the Avengers movie plot, but get cut short half way. The book does neatly tie this up, but it was a bit upsetting after reading the latest Parragon books release from the marvel cine-universe 'Iron man 3' which is perfectly well rounded - to this which; although is written very well, it (to steal agent Coulson's line) 'lacks conviction' there just isn't the scope that it could have had, if it was a full movie adaptation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Be warned: it's addictive! 26 Nov 2012
I read Marvel Avengers Book of the film by Parragon book service.It is absolutely brilliant. It's like watching and reading action at the the same time. In addition, it really makes you imagine stuff like you never before.The book makes you understand the characters' backgrounds better than it does on TV however be WARNED! It's so addictive that you would want to read more often. For me, I give it massive 5 STARS!!!!!!
