I have nothing but praise for this bargain release. Its first time on CD, a vintage performance from the Czech Phil of Martinu's Fourth Symphony that comes hurtling out of the speakers and carries you aloft. It's hard to imagine a more consistently thrilling symphony in the repetory. It's almost too wonderful, too relentlessly, ecstatically lyrical. I used to think Martinu's Frescoes was the best place to start, but this symphony, coupled with a good performance of the Fourth Piano Concerto, is a marvel. Don't wait another minute. Martinu's sense of fantasy carries all before him.
