I haven't had the best of luck with blenders to be honest. I had a Jamie Oliver model which was great but then I was stupid enough to try blitzing warm soup mix and the glass jug just exploded. Had a couple of cheap as chips brands also start leaking with n o option of repair. So, with this Wahl I guess so far I am pretty happy, but some grumbles worth noting. First off it seems well put together and feels heavy with good sealing, but the white plastic cover for the base lets down what could be a quality feel - looks a tad tacky IMO. Then the lettering isn't the most tasteful either. But, on to performance. It is pretty powerful and both the jug and grinder are well put together and substantial (both are glass). However, while the large jug is pretty easy to handle, with a neat push on lid arrangement, the little grinder is useless. It's too small for a start and if you're trying to grind nuts say then it just grinds 60-70% while the rest stays above the blades un-ground. It's also fairly useless for coffee beans as it won't grind fine enough for espresso or some filters, but is OK for French Press. The grinder is also fiddly and slow to put together and take apart and it's very easy to unscrew up when the jobs done (part done!!) and the contents fall everywhere. I give a guarded recommendation as I'll use it for soup and smoothies so will never need the grinder. With those so far it's been fine and I'm getting good use from it.

I expected more from the name attached to it ... as it is, I am disappointed, and surprised a celeb chef'd put his name to this item. The blender blades are on the small size, and I found that some food was blitzed to a purée whilst the stuff on top was untouched. So tho it's a fair sized jug, I could only process small amounts by pulsing them a bit at a time. Wearisome. Also, the glass jug is very easy to disengage from the locked position, so you have to twist it on hard before it works. Nice heavy glass jug, but the plastic parts look cheap and tacky, it looks bargain basement, which it isn't. And the knob for setting the speed is unfurled, no little ridges to make your grip surer. Works well on very fluid contents, so would be OK for drinks and cold soups, but I just didn't find it versatile enough as a good kitchen workhorse. It wouldn't earn itself counter space from me. The small grinder is, in my opinion, too small, only good for spices, and TBH, that's what I will probably use it for most, but that's an expensive spice mill. So just OK, but I can't honestly recommend this.

This is the first blender & grinder I have had and it is well made but having a glass jug is very heavy compared to others. I have used the blender to make soup and it worked well but of course you have to blend it in batches & at cool temperature. Good fitting lid. Reassembly requires paying attention and you do need to dismantle to clean jug and blades properly. Would have liked more recipes from James Martin. The grinder looks fine & takes the place of the jug & housing. Will try it out on coffee beans. Price wise good value.

This substantial blender will need to earn its place on the table. We can’t have it standing around doing nothing. A nimble stick blender will do most things a jug blender can do, with less washing up, notable exceptions being breadcrumbs, which will tend to fly around the room…

The grinder is a different matter; I was immediately really impressed with it. The glass container that holds the items to be ground, in my case, peppercorns, is solid thick glass, well made and practical. Easy to unscrew and take to the recipe. Just use your common sense and undo it upside down, or the stuff will go all over the machinery. All sorts of mixes to make for marinades, coatings, toppings…

And I am sure baby food would be delicious whizzed to a soft consistency within this blender. For me the purposes are more –
Soup – although the stick blender can do that in a deep pan without fuss. Smoothies – well yes this tough guy will serve them up fast and fresh. Shakes - a lovely summer treat with ice cream, milk and fruit or shake powder.

As to the jug, the base is weighty and stable; the controls are clear and simple. Obviously over loading it would lead to uneven results but otherwise we are most of us acquainted with what a blender can do. We used to call them liquidizers when they sat atop the Kenwood Chef; in the 60’s they were a revelation. We all lived on baby food for a while. So if you will use this, the James Martin version is a great one to go for.

This Wahl blender has a glass jug which feels strong and solid, it blends lovely, in my opinion much better than the Jamie Oliver Blender.
I do really like the way you can clean the jug after use , fill the jug half full and add washing up liquid, turn on the jug until clean then rinse jug under tap.
The grinder additional part was tested on nuts which it dealt with very well, and root ginger which was adequate for a marinade.
The grinder is also easy to clean.
I was particularly interested in this blender after recently having had a poor experience with the Jamie Oliver blender, (which is more expensive) and had started to smell during use like burnt rubber. I won't use it anymore.
All round I think this is a good product that I am happy with. It now is my go to blender and regularly used.
