I have played Martins for years and my current favourite is my OM42 although the 00028EC runs a close second.

These strings, in a light gauge, have been my standard strings for a long time, the strings I always return to after experimenting with other (Martin) strings. They give an excellent, balanced sound, a deep, resonant bass and a clear, tight treble. They are also comfortable to play and, as long as they are given a quick clean to absorb any moisture, they keep their appearance and sound.

Using Martin strings made for their guitars makes sense and these are excellent and, if readers look carefully, well-priced too.

Light strings with a lovely clear bright tone.

Work well on my acoustic 'Country n Western' guitar.

As far as I'm concerned the strings to by are these or Martin's 80-20s. I have a fairly nice guitar, and as I like to get the best sound out of it I go for these. The tone is balanced across all the strings and fretboard, and when the strings are new you can get an almost classical purity of sound. If you're a strummer buy 80-20s; they're better for strumming and your guitar will sound more like a guitar. 80-20s also last a lot longer; I find that I can get about 3-5 weeks of good sound out of a set, depending on how much I'm playing, but phosphors deteriorate very fast indeed: you'll be lucky to get more than 2 weeks of uncompromised sound, and the cost builds up if you replace them when they need replacing. As I have a fairly nice guitar I buy phosphors when I can - your setup is only as good as your worst piece of kit etc etc.
If you don't care about (or notice) the strings going dead, buy 80-20s. They sound fine, last longer, cost less and you're probably not even going to be affected by the lower quality of sound when flatpicking or fingerpicking. Same goes for flatpickers and fingerpickers who plug their guitar into something: you won't notice the difference, go for cheaper strings. If you're trying to sound like John Renbourn or Jack Rose, go for these.

Also, there are a "lifespan" version of these that I've tried. They're quite good in that they do last longer, and they're kind of half way between these and 80-20s in terms of tone... Really nice for strumming too. Overall though, they're not actually cheaper; they tend to last about 3 weeks and they cost twice as much. My advice would be go for these or the 80-20s.

Lastly, please, please, please don't listen to the reviewers that say these last for a year or more before breaking. If you're tempted to, buy the 80-20s.

Great sounding strings but only had them on for a couple of weeks. Bought them for my Yamaha as a replacement for the Yamaha strings and not dissapointed.

I've been using these strings for years now and have never found an alternative I like more. Most recently I tried a set of Rotosounds which were no competition for the Martins. These SP strings have a lovely bright tone and I find they keep their bright sound for a very long time.

These are the Martin recommended strings for my Om21. Have experimented with others but always come back to these. And at this great price who am I to argue.

Very well packaged & clearly marked sizes but most of all give a great warm tone on my Martin 000X1AE.
Only had them on a couple of weeks so dont know of durability but immediately improved the sound of guitar,Excellent strings and will buy again.
