It is quite hard to find a kettle review that described a kettle as both quiet and quick, which were my two highest priorities. This kettle is both, though it is not entirely flawless. It looks good, but the chromed glass can make it difficult to see the water level from some angles. Having said that, the kettle has to be filled by opening the lid, so you can see how much is going in! The lid feels a little plasticky, but functions fine. It pours well, without any boiling water splattering everywhere, which my last kettle did. All in all, a good kettle, which, at the reduced price, represents pretty good value.

James Martin and Wahl - what a superb combination. This kettle is classy, looks really great and works brilliantly. I love the "keep warm" button, it's proven useful when needing hot water for cooking various courses at the same time - I love it. It is a glass kettle though so perhaps teenagers that knock things against tap heads might be a bit of a danger! Totally recommend it.James Martin Executive Collection Cordless Kettle, Chrome Tinted Glass

A really beautiful looking kettle. Boils quickly, fairly quiet, easy to see water levels. My only two critisisms are that it doesn't pour very well, also the lid catch feels very flimsy. I don't pull the lid right back to fill it as I don't think the lid hinges would last long.

Works well, boils water quickly and looks good. Smoked glass finish almost has a metallic sheen so it fits in well with other brushed steel appliances. Having a glass wall means that it is really easy to judge how far you've filled it. We've never used the 'keep warm' function, so we can't comment on that. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I find the hinged lid slightly fiddly, perhaps if you were to ask me in another couple of months, when I was more used to it, then it would have got the extra star.

I decided to buy this kettle because of the look and the good reviews, and i'm glad I did. It looks great and the 'keep warm' feature is a lovely bonus if you like your tea or coffee without the fuss of having to boil the kettle every time. The kettle can be a little noisy, but that is a small price to pay. Great value for money when compare against other similar products.

Have now bought 2 James Martin kettles, one for me and one for my sister who was really envious when she saw mine.

This must be the most stylish kettle I have ever seen - the smoked glass design is really beautiful - just wish there was a matching toaster as that would have been perfect

The holy-grail-like search for a kettle that boils quickly, is quiet and does not taint the water can at last be put to rest (fingers crossed).

What's good about it? It boils water quite quickly. It does not alter the taste of the water -even once, twice, boiled water. It's not silent but is far from sounding like a jumbo jet taking off! The noise level is tolerable. The reduced price.

What's not so good? It's far from the best looking kettle around (though I accept that's a matter of opinion). The 'chrome glass' is interesting but prevents you clearly seeing how much water is left in it. Its a bit plasticky, feels cheap.

I typically avoid famous-name branded items - they are usually tacky and poor performers; I am also not at all a fan of James Martin. However, desperation for a new kettle took over and I overcame my prejudices and am so far pleasantly surprised. And at the reduced price of £30 makes it even more acceptable.

Could I recommend it? Yes, at this price definitely.

Our previous kettle (Breville Spectra) kept popping its lid up when boiling so it had to be replaced before someone got scalded. So, you can see I like flashy kettles. Had this Wahl a few days and have to say it does the job and it does look nice. The glass jug's chromed effect is pleasant and the switchgear smooth. Pours well for me, and the lid (once you work out how to open it) opens to 90 degrees - better than the Breville which managed 70. Fine for refilling on a tall tap. I do wonder how long the hinge will last - feels a little fragile. Don't know if its that quiet boiling but it does the job. I knock one star off because of the hinge and the fact it feels a little loose sitting on the base BUT it does swivel easily around 360 degrees while our previous dragged the base around with it. All in all - a decent product and a good price.
Update - had it year and a bit now and my worries about the hinge seem unfounded. Still very happy with it.
