The Camper Van Cookbook was a book I had wanted to write for a long time before I actually got the chance to write it. After more than 20 years of spending time in camper vans, camping, surfing, cooking and doing my best to live the life I wanted to share everything I'd learnt along the way. I wanted to share the joy of waking up to perfect surf, of camping in the wilds, of spending time with good friends, of eating well, of finding food and of getting off the sofa. It's not much to ask is it? Simple pleasures like picking blackberries or walking the coast path should be celebrated more.
It's what makes us feel alive.
Anyway, I attended Dr Challoner's Grammar School in Amersham before studying art foundation in High Wycombe. After that I studied film and television in Manchester and then headed off to London to work in the film industry. Actually, read that as make tea. I made lots of cups of tea whilst also pretending to help make many of the most famous TV commercials of the nineties (OXO, Gold Blend, Levi's, Guinness). After a while I decided it was time to jack it all in and move to Devon.
There I discovered that picking mussels on the way home from a surf is a lot better than going to the supermarket. And that's what brings me to The Camper Van Cookbook.
