A man and his dogs 12 Nov 2010
By Mandy
Frankly, Martin Clunes is a national treasure.

This series was brilliant when it was on TV and I had to snap it up on DVD. If you've not seen the series before the premise is pretty simple.

Martin Clunes is an avid dog lover. He sets out to educate himself and us on the origins of Man's Best Friend with his usual dry humour and passion. I love his documentary programmes even more than his drama sereis because, as great an actor as he is, he only seems to do these documentaries about things he really cares about. Consequently we get to see the real man and the often emotional journey he goes on.

The programme is very informative, naturally high production values and the atmosphere is fantastic. Both quaintly british and also globe trottingly fantastic.

Great presenter, great topic, great series.

It's just too short 28 Nov 2011

Martin Clunes isn't Doc Martin, he's a big kid and his obvious joy at being with and around dogs makes this a wonderful DVD. There are several highlights but nothing beats Martin meeting the wolf pack, that takes real guts. I'm not keen on dogs licking my face but when a large grey wolf does it - that's something else. My only disappointment was I thought it was a four part series and rationed myself to one episode an evening. When I came to watch episode 3 I found it didn't exist nor did episode 4 (don't know where I got that expectation from). As I said in the title this could have been longer or should have been. Whatever it's highly recommended to any and all dog lovers.
