Book Description

This is a story told through the eyes of Martin a recently retired banker. Within weeks of returning to his home village he meets up with Alistair – an old school friend. Unsure how he will make use of his free time, Martin agrees to take up the intriguing offer from Alistair and get involved in his secret project.
Martin has never married, nor has he had any children. These are all facts and part of his life memories. At least, that’s what he thinks he remembers. However, since his involvement with Alistair’s project, Martins life changes forever – and continues to change in all manner of inexplicable ways. As the weeks go by, Martin comes to realise that he can no longer be sure of anything, anybody, or even his past life. Is he really losing his mind and going mad? Or are others now controlling his life and possibly manipulating his destiny?

4.0 out of 5 stars Good 1 Aug. 2013

I enjoyed the concept of this book, the plot was great and the author demonstrated a good understanding of science, resulting in an enjoyable read. Not sure what to make of the claims at the beginning and end of the book which stated that the story was based on true events. Seems a bit far fetched and I think I'll take it with a very large pinch of salt. Other than that though, I really did like this book and would recommend it to sci-fi fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent story - pity about the punctuation 1 Jan. 2013
By Dave S
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a really good science fiction, conspiracy type novel. It's exciting and intriguing and I couldn't wait to get to the end to reach the resolution. As others have remarked, the ending is a bit open ended, but that doesn't spoil it.

The only thing I'd say that's wrong with the book is that it could do with some editing; what I really mean is correcting. After reading this I now fully appreciate the need for appropriate commas and apostrophes. Yes, putting commas round a person's name in direct speech when they're being addressed can be a bit tedious, but consistently missing them out can change the meaning of the sentence. And most apostrophes do serve a purpose. Also, some of the sentences near the end of the book have words missing and you need to go back and read them again to figure out what's missing and get the proper sense.

4.0 out of 5 stars A mind bending novel 28 April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Weaver takes us to that strange place when you're half awake and half asleep and are not sure what's real and is not. Meeting versions of himself in other 'places', the protaganist 'Martin' attempts to make sense of it all. Quirky and original story for sci-fi fans who will love it.

This book kept me guessing and even now, there are still questions. It's definitely one of those thought provoking stories and I really hope Andrew will write a sequel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Dimension 17 Jan. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Nicely written, with a superb plot - and a central character who came across as so real that, by the time I had finished this book, I felt as if I knew him personally. This story is told through his eyes - and it is a story which ensnared me, right from the beginning.

Martin wakes up in an unfamiliar world, to a wife he hardly knows as well as a lifestyle which seems like a dream - confused? It gets better. Martin is experiencing flash backs; of a car he feels passionate about, as he leafs through a magazine - but it's more than that, the photo he sees is actually his car, or at least this is what his mind seems to be telling him, much to the growing incredulity of his wife. Eventually, it transpires that all this really was a dream, as the story rewinds to one month earlier. Martin has been approached by an old friend and chosen to take place in a weird experiment, allowing his brain to be probed and manipulated, in order that he can visit other dimensions. It is in one of these `dimensions' he meets the woman who would have been his wife, before returning to his real life.

The story was intriguing, easy to read and kept me interested all the way through. I did find the ending a little abrupt and left a lot to be explained. As a useful tip, re-read the introduction, when you reach the end; and suddenly it all starts to make sense! All in all, a very good book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great plot - shame about the narrative 26 April 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
'Martin' comprises a five star plot within a three star narrative. The plot really is terrific - it's original, imaginative and moves at a fast pace. This is science fiction quite literally - the story is set in the present time and imagines a new branch of science which can apparently transfer someone's mind into an alternative, parallel dimension. Unfortunately, the quality of the writing falls somewhat short - the characters are under-developed and the dialogue is often weak. However, don't let this put you off if you're looking for an exciting and enjoyable quick read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fizzle.... er... no fizzle.... yawn 22 April 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It started out quite well, but as another reviewer mentioned it went downhill quite quickly, and the plot lost itself.
