I was recommended this book by a fellow teacher. I had a look through and bought it so I could use it for warm up activities in my PE lessons, particularly in gymnastics. The kids love the fact that it's "Karate Kid" training, and find them a real challenge. I like the Superman and the pupils in my class enjoy the animal activities like kangaroo and spiderkid crawl. The instructions are simple and easy to follow, and the pictures are well photographed to that you can clearly see what to do.

Although intended for martial arts instructors, I'd recommend this book to anyone who does physical activities with children or parents who have children to learn karate, kung fu, kick-boxing etc. Be warned though, some are very challenging and you'll have to use your own judgement.

I bought the Kindle version, but now realise I should have got the print copy.

Good bunch of exercises that the kids love doing. Lots of variety and innovative methods of keeping them interested. A great book to keep and refer back to again and again. Sensei Perry has done a great job with this book.

I don't understand how people can rate 5 stars on this book. It's a pamphlet that explains how to carry out the most basic warm up exercises you would find in any martial arts club. Not worth a pound.

First time review for a first rate book 24 Feb. 2012
By Sensei Jim - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
My review of Sensei Perry's books is based on nearly 30 years of training and teaching. Much of what he says will ring true with not only the Instructors but the parents as well. Before my full review I want everyone to know the quality and character of Sensei Perry. He cares, truly cares, about making a difference in his students and the Martial Arts industry. I personally run a nonprofit Martial Arts Program and in these trying times every little bit saved can go towards other activities and equipment to enrich the experience for the students and families... I reached out to Sensei Perry letting him know about my program and he was kind enough to provide materials to my organization. Non sales pitch, no questions just a generous act of kindness to someone thousands of miles away with whom he has never had an experience with prior to my email query.

I am a first time reviewer and I want to state that Sensei Perry has not paid me to endorse his book, he has however provided copies to Instructors, such as myself, who have purchased his other books so that we may write an honest review for others. These books are skewed a bit more towards the parents, Instructors not familiar with Sensei Perry's work would benefit more from his material on his website as it is a bit more extensive but slightly more expensive.

O.K. my honest opinion about the books:
- For Instructors a lot of the material will seem like "I already know that" but the approach that Mr. Perry takes... the psychology/setup of it is what will help you. Also, personally, with some honest reflection, I found myself saying "I already know that... but I haven't used that in a very long time." These books, as well as the others found on his website, are well organized, have clear and concise direction and will prove to be a tremendous resource when making your lesson plans. Your students, as mine did, will come up with interesting variations... let them run with it... push the imagination and their enthusiasm will grow (take notes they will come up with some great ideas!).

- For the parents, if you find that your child is challenged with physical activities and with some honest reflection you feel that their health may be compromised by a sedentary lifestyle PLEASE buy these books, bring your child to the nearest school/Martial Arts program and join. Sign up with them, share the experience, I cannot tell you how many parents over the years have enjoyed sharing the time on the training floor with their child. Some of you may say "You just want more students to sign up so you can make more money"... know this the program I am running is free for all students who do volunteer work to help out the community... after three years of running the program not one student has been charged a fee. It personally cost me thousands a year to run the program, this is how much I care about making a difference.

On a final note, our society is moving more and more towards a sedentary lifestyle -- sitting at a desk all day in school/work, sitting and watching TV, sitting while surfing the internet, sitting while playing videogames, sitting while texting, reading etc. Sitting. Sitting. Sitting. We need to get up and start moving with our children. As stated above, being involved in the Martial Arts for nearly 30 years I have seen first hand the number of children who are out of shape steadily increase over time. I cannot tell you how much it breaks my heart to see a child who struggles with completing one lap around the gym. Please get involved, get your child moving and having fun, make time out of your busy workdays to share the physical/exercise experience with them. Get these books, learn how to make it fun so it doesn't feel like work or punishment and enjoy the time and results that these activities will bring not only into your life but your child's.

Sensei Perry, thank you again for your help and generous act.

Sincerely,

Sensei Jim

martial arts for kids 23 Feb. 2012
By karateforkids - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Congratulations Sensei Perry on a great resource for instructors of all types of martial arts. I have used many of the games and drills for my students and I have noticed a big improvement, particularly in the children who only do karate in the lesson each week. The parents like the idea of being able to be part of their child's martial arts experience too. Most parents who call me have absolutely no idea about martial arts so to have some exercises to follow encourages them to be involved in their child's development.

This book is a must for anyone teaching children martial arts. It is packed full with interesting and fun games and exercises for children of all ages.

No matter how long you've been teaching this book will give you some great ideas to interest the children and give your classes a boost.

I definately recommend Aaron's publications; each one is an excellent tool for any martial art school.
