5.0 out of 5 stars MARTHA'S CHRISTMAS 2 May 2010
Format:Hardcover
Martha Stewart's Christmas is an excellent but fairly dated book. Full of good ideas for the festive period with an insight into 'her world'. Obviously this is an American book but the ideas are easily copied for this country. I feel I can return to this book year after year and still pick up the odd idea and make it 'modern' but that said any style goes at Christmastime doesn't it!

4.0 out of 5 stars MARTHA'S CHRISTMAS OF 1989!!! 13 Jun 2012
By Eleni TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover
I got a bunch of used books and I am so glad that was one of them. It is a lovely old fashioned Christmas book that reminded me of my childhood and since my Christmas cooking and decorating style is more classic than modern, I can actually get some really good ideas. I have to admit that it is rather dated and most recipes can be found on Martha Stewart's web site anyway. However, it is still a beautiful book with its green and gold themes and it is really well written with easy to follow, tasty recipes, with beautiful coloured illustrations for serving suggestions and decorations. It includes recipes for her amazing cookies, puddings, cakes and roasts, as well as great ideas for homemade gifts like her potpourri, dozens of preserves, curds and jellies, nice spiced vinegars, and her famous gift baskets. The decorations are limited to a few wreaths and Christmas trees, and sadly are not as detailed, as in her more modern books, which I highly recommend.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dated 30 May 2011
By Caz
Format:Hardcover
I have several Martha Stewart books and have used them a lot to bring something different to the holidays. This book however was very dated and many of the ideas are presented in her newer books with more helpful pictures and diagrams. Treat yourself to one of her more modern books instead.

4.0 out of 5 stars Something for every ability and interest level 10 Dec 2001
By Catherine - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Yesterday I made Noel Nut Balls and the chocolate-dipped almond cookies for the fifth or sixth Christmas in a row, and chances are I'll make several of the other recipes before the end of the holidays. The cookie recipes are easy to follow, guaranteed to please and the cookies themselves can be frozen for weeks without any change in texture, appearance or flavor. However, I can't imagine many busy people whipping up the cassoulet or even the fruitcake unless they are experienced cooks who can confidently evaluate and execute rather expensive (in terms of ingredients) recipes.
The craft and gift ideas run the range from easy and very rewarding (such as making your own wrapping paper, which turns out to be a great activity to do with children-- and those gold and coppery designs look sensational under the tree) to the fantastical...like using a jeweller's drill to make holes in nuts for decorative purposes. Still, this is a book full of ideas for holiday activities and creations for people with the full range of abilities and available time and it really is enjoyable to read and to look through.
I am buying a second copy because the first has literally fallen apart. This is the second Martha Stewart book to have broken into pieces (Entertaining did, as well) and I do question the quality of binding.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Most Useful Christmas Book I've Found 5 Jan 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com

I adore Martha Stewart. She's a terrific teacher and this is absolutely the best Christmas "idea" book I've ever read. I love the recipes and photos. It's a book I will treasure and one I will use over and over again. Thank you, Martha!

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely book 18 Feb 2002
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com

I loved the 'feel' of this book, very festive. The presentation is beautiful.
What disappointed me a little was that there was no pattern for the gingerbread mansion that was featured in the book, which was the main reason I bought it. It's a little too easy for me to just be told to 'use your imagination' and 'the possibilities are endless'. I expected more!
Other than that, it is a very nice addition to my book collection with timeless ideas and inspirations, or just to browse through when christmas season comes around.

5.0 out of 5 stars classic Martha 27 Oct 2013
By Ladybug - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book arrived quickly and is in perfect condition . Although it is a bit out dated it's worth having for the crafts and recipes
and the Christmas feeling that Martha incorporated . Christmas decorations may change , but Christmas and the food and
traditions that come with it never go out of style . I think it is the Polish back ground that Martha absorbed from her dear
mother that comes through . "Big Martha " , who was little , was a joy to watch , when she helped Martha teach Polish
recipes . She packet a lot of strength into everything she did and I was hoping she would write a cookbook someday .
That never came true , maybe Martha can do it , when she has nothing else to do . lol
