This music has not often been recorded and some of the pieces are recorded for the first time on this CD. The style of music is of its time and Marsh is an underrated British composer. The only criticism is of his use of repetition as although it plays a big part in music composition, it has its limits as to how often you can repeat or invert a phrase. Nevertheless and pleasant CD which makes pleasant listening. The quality of the recording is very good and fills the room/car with depth and tone. Bass, middle and upper registers are very well balanced.

The symphonies by John Marsh seem very familiar even though I had not heard of him before Classic FM played part of one of his symphonies - No. 8 in G major, Andante.

I know nothing about music, not being a musician, so I cannot describe in musical terms what it is all about. But the melodies can become earworms after a short while. You are warned!

I love them all!

These symphonies are almost completely unknown and yet they are extremely worthy of our attention. There is music worthy of any contemporary composer, and that includes Haydn and Mozart, so be prepared to be delighted.
