Book Description

11 July 2006 1405158468 978-1405158466 6th Edition
The Royal Marsden Hospital Manual of Clinical Nursing Procedures, sixth edition, presents up–to–date, evidence–based clinical skills procedures, enabling nurses to deliver effective patient–focused care.

The full content of the paperback manual is now available in a handy–sized pocket edition. This new pocket–sized edition is ideal for nurses and students to use both on and off the ward.

Clinical procedures are a fundamental aspect of nursing care so it is essential that they are evidence based. The Royal Marsden Hospital Manual of Clinical Nursing Procedures, sixth edition provides that evidence while remaining firmly grounded in current day–to–day nursing practice. The clinical skills procedures have been updated based on an appraisal of current research and advice from clinical experts to ensure that current practice is reflected and nurses are enabled to deliver clinically effective care.

Chapters on related topics have been grouped together e.g. topics within Drug administration, Elimination, Observations, Pain management, and Personal hygiene are all grouped for easy reference. The manual has been expanded to include more illustrations and new sections have been added on problem solving associated with procedures, to help nurses during the course of their clinical work.

The clinical skills procedures in this textbook are related to every aspect of a person’s care, which is why The Royal Marsden Hospital Manual of Clinical Nursing Procedures is now the manual of choice for nurses at all stages and levels of their career, giving them the confidence they need to be safe, informed and skilled practitioners.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful book 27 Jan 2009
By K Marsh
Format:Paperback
Being a first year student nurse, I needed a book that had everything I needed to know and felt like it was worth the amount I paid. This book has fulfilled that need. Not only does it look bright, cheerful and readable...the large amount of info inside is well worth the price as I'm now clued up on so many things I was unsure of before. Quality assured.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential for Students and qualified alike!!! 23 Aug 2004
Format:Paperback
This book is amazing!!! As a Student nurse I find it a fountain of knowledge and have referenced to it in every assignment I've written so far, and I'm sure it'll be referenced in the future ones too!!!
Currently on my community placement, while on a visit I attended with my mentor for post op wound check, we read on the discharge notes he'd had a 'blebectomy'. Even my mentor who has been qualified about 15-20 years or more had never heard of the procedure, so we looked it up in 'Royal Marsden's' and discovered it was the removal of a blister from the surface of the lung (a common cause of spontaneous pneumothorax).

So as you can see it is an essential book to be owned by both Student and Qualified nurses alike!! A NURSE'S BIBLE!!!

I'm a student nurse, i have used this book all the time for assignments and understanding clinical skills. This book gives you not only the basics but is set out in a way that is easy to understand. Many trust policies follow the Royal Marsden so it is also useful for that reason. It's a perfect book for students and post reg nurses.

4.0 out of 5 stars Handy to have 25 Jan 2006
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I like this book as it goes into some detail about the topics I have used it for 2 assignments now and will probably keep on using it to reference from. It has come in handy more than once when I've needed to look something up in detail but don't want to trail through the internet for the answers.

4.0 out of 5 stars The essential resourse for student nurses. 21 Jun 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is an essential buy for the student nurse, I bought a lot of books over my first year and although some were good books this is the only book apart from an Anatomy and Physiology book, that I would say is definitely needed in the first year. Unlike the non-student version, it is smaller sized so that it can fit in an average bag, easy to carry to university and to whatever placement you are on. All correct evidence based procedures for the nurse are listed and many references to support your learning. Pictures and tables help students assimilate the information and the text explains the reasoning behind the procedures. Great introductions and summaries all work to provide background theory and practical insight. The Royal Marsden is THE essential learning resource for nurses and it will be used for the whole of your nursing course and your nursing career. Hope this helps.
