MARRIED TO A STRANGER,
By
This review is from: Married to a Stranger (Historical) (Kindle Edition)
Sophia Langley had been betrothed to Daniel Chatterton for ten years. They had become betrothed just before he left for India with his twin brother Callum. Sophia had quarrelled with Callum before the brothers departure, he told her that it was ridiculous to become engaged she was too young, and he Daniel would be away a long time. She should wait to fall in love properly. Now Daniel and Callum were returning home, but tragedy has struck the ship they were sailing in had sunk. Daniel had drowned, so Sophia was now free. In the years of her betrothed's absence Sophia's Father had died, and the family finances were quite dire. Debts had been mounting, traders were pressing for payment they had been willing to wait while they knew of Sophia's promised marriage they felt assured of eventual payment, as Daniel and Callum's older brother was William Earl of Flamborough. But now all that is no more and the bills can be left no longer, Sophia has decided that the only option is for her to find paid work. Callum Chatterton knew he must do something for Sophia, he had tried to persuade his brother Daniel to provide for her in his will, but he had not and Callum felt it was his responsibility to make sure she was cared for, as it was now six months since the Bengal Queen had sunk and Daniel had died, Callum decided that the only course of action open to him was to marry Sophia himself, he could offer financial help but he knew she was too proud to accept that. This was a very enjoyable book to read, the story takes the reader on a journey showing how two strangers learn to come to terms with the loss of a brother and fiancé, but are now married to each other. Sophia although shy is nevertheless not afraid to look at her true feelings of her lost love, and facing how she is now having feelings for her husband. Callum misses his twin and finds it difficult without him. He has married Sophia and done his duty to help her, but this will be a marriage of convenience for him. But he had not counted on how deeply she is beginning to affect him.
