5.0 out of 5 stars A good twist! 2 Feb 2006
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This was the first romance I have read by this author and I look forward to reading many more.
The story appears to be a simple one. The main female character, Katherine is reduced to desperate measures when she finds that she has been duped by her brother and has been stuck with crippling debts. Her solution? Marry a convicted highwayman who is shortly to be executed. Her debts will die with him. There is a tender love scene between Katherine and Nicholas, where they exchange stories while the spend the night in his cell at Newgate . She accepts his story, that he is innocent, is true and is determined to save his life, although he believes they will never meet again.
I dont want to spoil your enjoyment of the story, but from this point on there are several twists that make you race to read on and find what will happen to them both.
Louise Allen creates believable characters.Katherine is determined, honest and her confusion as she finds out more about her husband is described well. The secondary characters are interesting and not too steriotyped.
You will want to keep turning the pages to find out what happens next.

4.0 out of 5 stars Could have been so great!! 22 Jun 2014
By J. Eve - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The storyline was great up until the end, which was rushed and felt like there were pages missing. The whole ending was done in one page, I felt cheated and unhappy, since I read the entire book in one sitting.
