Book Description

25 Aug 2000 Cadogan Guides
The author of Cadogan's acclaimed Morocco guide now focuses squarely on the three imperial cities that constitute by far the most popular Morocco tour: Marrakesh, the exotic heart of the country, with its buzzing souks and bazaars; historic Fez, with its lush olive groves and ancient mosques; and Rabat, with its monasteries, museums, and world-renowned kilim rugs. The guide offers 20% more information on these destination cities than the full country guide, with new site plans, detailed maps and practical information on where to eat, drink, shop and stay.

First off, I have to say that any country guide that gets the notes and coins of the local currency wrong should be viewed with the deepest suspicion! (Rogerson thinks that there's a 10 Dihram note...). Having said that, despite Rogerson's occasional tendency to snobbery, this is a concise, informative and very readable effort. Crucially, we felt that it neglected likely day-trip destinations around Fes, the restaurant recommendations are annoyingly opinion-free, and no mention was made of Morocco's appallingly badly behaved ATM network. Still, a good alternative to Lonely Planet's dated tome. I'd give it 3.5/5 if I could, just coz the cover's so much nicer in design than it's rivals.
