When I first got this album I wasn't so sure about it because it is more modern and synthesized than their older albums. After a couple of listens I was hooked. The Barenaked Ladies still manage to inject so much energy into their songs that the lyircs come alive and with the catchy tunes on Maroon the results are just amazing. Some people have complained that they have moved too far away from their acoustic sounds that were more prominent in Gordon, MYSD and BOAPS but it really is a natural progression as the band matures.

After having seen the ladies live in concert I was once again obsessed with all of their material and Maroon is definitely up there with all of their other albums. To me their greatest achievement so far has to be Born On A Pirate Ship but Maroon is definitely an album for all fans especially those who have only been around since Stunt. Well worth it!!!

This is by far the best Barenaked Ladies have ever produced. While there is a distinct difference from their earlier stuff and the music that earned them their reputation as a brilliant live band, and even a difference from Stunt, I feel, in the sheer quality of the lyrics and some of the music that accompanies it. It took me a while to get into Maroon, but it is like all good albums, worth persevering with. After two or three listenings of each track, the brilliance of the lyrics especially in Helicopters, Tonight Is The Night I Fell Asleep At The Wheel and Off The Hook shines through and can be appreciated alonside the more familiar BNL sound in Pinch Me and Falling For The First Time. I recommend this album to pure music lovers everywhere. If you want the most sensational mix of humour, lyrical quality and musical merit on the market, buy Maroon.

If, like me you came to Barenaked Ladies through One Week and Stunt but have gone on to discover their amazing back catalogue, then you won't be dissapointed. If you've been a fan from Gordon, of from Maybe You Should Drive, or Born On A Pirate Ship, then you won't be dissapointed. This album combines the best styles from all the previous albums, ranging from the catchy 'Pinch Me' and 'Too Little Too Late', to the ballad of 'Helicopters', and a track on a subject few other bands would dare sing about- 'Tonight Is The Night I Fell Asleep At The Wheel'. If you want instant pop songs like 'One Week' then you may be a little dissapointed, but if you want a heartfelt album, with songs, that after a few plays, will really get into your head, and a great mixture of styles then buy Maroon now. Some bands might struggle to follow up the huge success of an album like 'Stunt'. While 'Maroon' might not be as comercially successful, it's sure to go down very well with their dedicated fan base, because it showcases a fantastic band on top form.

Are we listening to the same album?
Was a little shocked at amazon's own review above - are they actually in the business of trying to sell CDs? Ah well, good for them about being upfront with their staff's opinions. Read more

No home should be without it.
If you have never heard of this band (or even if you have) this is essential listening. The lyrics are (almost) as riotous as Gordon and Stunt. Read more

Predictably good, well-polished, but unmemorable
I've tried hard with Maroon, and Stunt to some extent, to engage with the band in the way you can seeing them live. To me, good lyrics need a memorable tune to carry them. Read more
