MARMOT – THE COMPANY

Marmot was born in a former grocery store in Grand Junction, Colorado USA in the spring of 1974, opening as a rental and retail shop under the name of Marmot Mountain Works. Our original gear was targeted at climbers and mountaineers that needed products for real world use that they could depend on.

From small beginnings 36 years ago, we have grown and expanded our line to encompass multiple product categories, and are now distributed in more than 30 countries worldwide. Our goal is still to design product that is authentic, innovative and technical.

In every area of business practice we engage in, we passionately seek the highest level of quality, performance, sustainability and value.

We craft professional quality outdoor gear, born from the experience of working mountain guides and instructors.

    Definitely light 31 Aug 2010
    Colour Name:Eclipse|Size Name:Medium
This jacket is so light that at first it feels like you're not wearing a coat at all. It's quite short (comes down to waist level) and the zip wasn't 100% waterproof in persistent heavy rain. However, it serves brilliantly as an ultralight "emergency" coat, plus I've found it very useful in the summer when my usual waterproof is too warm. One minor niggle: if the zip is not fastened then the coat tends to fall off my shoulders because it is so light. Some weight in the pockets would help, but of course that defeats the object.

    Amazing 15 April 2012
    By Lukas
I was a bit sceptical at the beginning, another "breathable" jacket I thought.

But this is a ridiculously great product! It really is breathable and weights nothing. You cannot appreciate it before you try out, I tried different fabrics and brands (including goretex xcr, windstopper, tactel, different running brands) and this is the ultimate running jacket for areas where it often rains.

Cons: the end of the zipper tends to bounce which is as a bit annoying (you can easily fix it), it also seems that it is likely to be torn (it is very thin) so be careful.

I do not write reviews very often but this product deserves it!

water protection, weight and breathability good, but fraying bad 20 Jan 2010
By Jon Farinelli - Published on Amazon.com
The jacket does a good job of keeping you dry and being breathable. The cuffs and collar started fraying within 2 weeks of owning it though, and its gotten worse. I've only owned the jacket for about 4 months and I see other signs of fraying along the hood and bottom of the jacket as well.

This thing is amazing. It weighs next to nothing and is a great outer layer as part of a lightweight layering system. I would highly recommend it.
UL rain protection 23 Mar 2011

Bought XL which weighed in at 7.6 ozs. Fits fine and rolls up into pocket. I was looking for lightest weight rain jacket for my backpacking trips including JMT. No frills coat, thin but waterproof. Bright Lime color easy to see in pack! Hood fit just ok - saw other comments regarding this. If looking for ultra light weight rain jacket this should be considered. No frills coat but at 7.6 for XL it is one of the lightest available.
