Lightweight and Warm 24 Jan. 2013
By Gomer5 - Published on Amazon.com
I bought this when it was on sale at a local discount store. So far I have been pleasantly surprised by it.

Warmth - This is sooo warm for how lightweight it is. This morning I missed the bus and had to walk around a mile and a half to campus when it was hovering around -2 F outside. I had on a nice sweater underneath and it kept me plenty warm during my walk. Now, I wouldn't use just this if I were going to go sit somewhere in that temperature, but while moving around it was great.

Durability - So far it has held up pretty well. I've worn it almost everyday and have yet to spot any problem areas. A little bit of down has come out but not nearly as much as other down coats I've had. As others have mentioned, the material is quite thin, though, and I'm pretty sure this would tear if you wore it hiking and snagged a branch.

A few random thoughts:

- One of my favorite things is that the pockets are so warm. The pockets are placed under the down filling, rather than over so they get insulated too. My hands are always the first thing to get cold, but they stay nice and toasty in this jacket.

- I haven't had any problems with the zipper catching so far as mentioned by another reviewer.

- They seem to run a little big also. I wear a large in almost everything but the medium in this fits well and still leaves me plenty of room to wear a sweater or thin hoodie underneath.

- If you're planning on wearing this in rain or snow I would probably get a lightweight shell as this isn't very water resistant.

- It packs into its own pocket for easy storage.

If you're looking for a lightweight winter jacket that will keep you warm under most circumstances I would definitely recommend the Marmot Zeus!

Warm! 26 May 2013

I purchased to wear under my waterproof shell when temps dip while riding my motorcycle. In Maine, the weather in the spring can be unpredictable. I go on a ride and the weather will suddenly drop from 70 to 40 without warning. This jacket packs small in my backpack and will keep me warm when the temps dip. It's not too bulky to wear under my jacket. The fabric is very soft and I suspect it wouldn't be very durable if used without a shell. So far, though, it's held up well.

I use it for winter hiking and am quite comfortable in it. It's easily packable in it's own pocket. Very light weight and warm on really cold days.

Light weight and warm 8 Mar. 2013

The only reason I am writing this is to help people who have read the negative reviews. First this is a very nice light weight down jacket personally I love it. Please note this is not a jacket for abuse like a Carhardt work jacket or even walking thru briar patches.

For what it is its great and you cannot get an armored car to perform like sports car. This jacket is super light but for everyday normal use is fine for me but Im not a mechanic or anything. I also own the matching vest which I love to.

Dont pay attention to idiots who write reviews of an ultralight down jacket to perform like a hardshell. Probably the same guy who uses his lawn mower as a hedge trimmer.:)

lite and tough 3 Mar. 2014

Very warm for the weight. I wear it in 10-20 degree weather with a sweater under it and I'm fine. I've had it for a year and worn it for almost 2 winters now and its still in great shape. I was concerned that the outer fabric was too lite and would tear easily, but it has held up well. I wouldn't take it bushwacking through thorn patches but for the most part it does fine outdoors.
