Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The Marmitek GigaVideo 70 set allows you to transmit audio and video signals around your home without running wires. What's more, the system provides an return infrared path so that you can control your source equipment from a remote location using your existing remote controls.

The GigaVideo 70 set consists of a transmitter and a receiver. You connect your audio-video source equipment (for example, a VCR, satellite receiver, decoder, DVD or PC) to the transmitter and connect the receiver to a television. You can then watch the output of your source equipment on the television and can also control the source equipment using the source equipment's original infrared remote control. The receiver also feature a built in modulator and an antenna-out connection so you can connect it to a television that doesn't have a scart connector.

An infrared extender cable is included so that you can control your source equipment even if it is kept behind cupboard doors. Extra transmitters and receivers are available separately so that you can transmit the output of more than one source and/or receive transmissions at more than one location.

Please note that the return infrared path provided by the GigaVideo 70 works with infrared (IR) signals and not the IrDA signals used by some satellite and cable set-top boxes or the higher frequency infrared signals used by Bang and Olufsen equipment. It is not compatible with hi-fi systems that are controlled using remote controls that transmit radio frequencies (e.g. some Bose systems).

Excellent 21 Oct 2008
I would highly recommend one of these- no wires, no fuss and good picture/sound quality. I have it hooked up to my sky plus box to a portable tv upstairs- there is very rarely any interference and even if there is - a slight tweak of the receiver and you can get it spot on again (but this is very rare). excellent value for money and does the job it is supposed to.

Great Little Product 10 May 2009
Bought this item due to not wanting to pay for a multi-room Sky package and it works great.

Setup looks a bit daunting when everything is out of the box but this is not the case as I set it up in under 10 minutes. The only little snag is the infra red sender device that sits in front of the receiver on the Sky box. Make sure that only one of the infra red senders (attached to silver box) can be seen by the Sky box, which means basically to hide the other two behind the box.

I would highly recommend.

This product is basically a wireless extension for Composite video, i.e. the single-pin yellow connector on all TVs. Even the best signal when sent over Composite is no match for the quality of the RGB-SCART or S-Video connection that most people will use to connect their digibox/DVD player to their TV. So this product will never be good for any screens above about 15".

Considering the above quality limitation, the wireless signal is reasonably robust, but being an analog signal it suffers from unpredictable interference. So one night it might be fine, then the wind changes and you need to re-adjust. I find this on my setup and I'm sending the signal about 10 meters through two wooden internal walls. It's likely the neighbourhood's dense Wi-Fi is causing some of the problems. Switching our Microwave on completely zaps the signal, though this is to be expected.

So overall I'm pleased enough to use it for our small bedroom TV, but I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone who dislikes the quality of Composite signals because the actual quality is worse than that.
