Product Description

Marmaduke, the world’s most lovable Great Dane, leaps from comic strip fame (appearing in 600 newspapers in over 20 countries) to big screen stardom. In this family comedy event, the “Duke” is living large in Orange County, California. But fitting in with his new four-legged friends--and a potential romantic interest--isn’t always easy for a super-sized teenage dog.

All-star voice cast including Owen Wilson, Fergie, David Walliams and William H. Macy.

From Amazon.co.uk

Marmaduke is a lighthearted comedy based on the comic strip by Brad Anderson. When Phil gets a job with an organic pet food company in California, he moves his family, including his huge Great Dane Marmaduke and Balinese cat Carlos, from their home in Kansas in order to pursue his new job opportunity, but he's so wrapped up in his new job that he doesn't really take time to listen to his wife and kids and consider their needs. Marmaduke knows exactly what's going on, but he can't get Phil to listen, and besides, he's got his own problems trying to fit in at the local dog park. Phil and Marmaduke each struggle to impress their peers and reinvent themselves in the image of what they think others want them to be, but they only wind up hurting themselves and their family. Marmaduke is full of classic, if overused comic moments--the oversized dog passing gas while lying on Phil and Debbie's bed, Marmaduke and his dog friends trashing the house at an out-of-control dog party, and a crazy dog-surfing scene--but the gags manage to not completely overwhelm the plot, as happened in Furry Vengeance, and the film leaves viewers with an important message about the value of family, being true to oneself, and taking time to really listen to those you love. Marmaduke could almost be classified as Marley and Me light: it combines silly gags with a serious message like Marley and Me, but it lacks a high level of emotional investment. Voice talent includes Owen Wilson, George Lopez, Fergie, Emma Stone, and Kiefer Sutherland. Marmaduke isn't a great film, but the kids will be entertained by it and most adults will find it palatable enough. (Rated PG for some rude humour and language, but appropriate for most ages 7 and older.)--Tami Horiuchi

Before seeing this with my two young daughters I read a scathing review that attacked the film's inherent cheesiness, borrowing from other family films, and juvenile humour. Apart from the ubiquitous fart jokes the latter wasn't really correct, whilst the movie's lack of originality and desire to impart a well-worn moral message (family should come before all else), weren't really a surprise to me as this is a family comedy after all!
The voices were great - especially Owen Wilson as the titular Great Dane - and with quality cameos from William H Macy and (albeit extremely briefly) David Walliams, this is simply a fun kids' film that won't drive parents mad.

I really enjoyed this 'talking dog' movie. It has some very funny scenes and while the story is fairly predictable it does not spoil the enjoyment of this film. If you are a dog lover then you will definitely want to buy or rent this, it is also a fantastic family film. The voices of the dogs are well dubbed and it does look as though the dogs are talking.

Absolutely loved this film - first watched it on SKY and then had to buy the DVD so that I could watch it over and over again. I've watched the DVD at least 3 times and still pick-up little funnies that I had previously missed. Would strongly recommend if you are a doggie person.

VERY FUNNY, SUITABLE BOTH FOR ADULTS & CHILDREN. WATCHED BY MY GRANDCHILDREN, AGE RANGES 3 - 7. THE VOICE OF OWEN WILSON, AS MARMADUKE, IS JUST BRILLIANT. WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR RAINY DAY HOLIDAY VIEWING! HAVING OWNED A BEAUTIFUL & FUNNY, GREAT DANE, WE COULD SEE SO MANY SIMILARITIES! WATCH & ENJOY.

Silly and fun - "Marmaduke" is a good watch for the kids in the house.

But if you're buying on BLU RAY - leave the American issue on 20th Century Fox alone.
It's REGION A LOCKED and therefore won't play on our machines unless they're chipped to be 'all regions' (which Few are).

Opt for the 'UK' version instead - it's cheap as chips now and a looker on the format too..

Honestly G Stephenson lighten up. I'm sure your fishing for responses to your review so I'll endulge you. You forget that your watching an amazing cinematic, fun ,family film. I agree with the other honest reviews. I took my children to watch this and they loved it. Shameless humour and one of Owen Wilsons best performances. I only wish my Great Dane was capable of such laughter inducing behaviour. Oh how we laughed !!

I was quite shocked to find this film was great after seeing some films at the cinema in the past which had not been so good. I bought it on dvd recently because i enjoyed it myself and it gives me something to watch that is entertaining.
And at the price it would be great for everyone!
