Before seeing this with my two young daughters I read a scathing review that attacked the film's inherent cheesiness, borrowing from other family films, and juvenile humour. Apart from the ubiquitous fart jokes the latter wasn't really correct, whilst the movie's lack of originality and desire to impart a well-worn moral message (family should come before all else), weren't really a surprise to me as this is a family comedy after all!
The voices were great - especially Owen Wilson as the titular Great Dane - and with quality cameos from William H Macy and (albeit extremely briefly) David Walliams, this is simply a fun kids' film that won't drive parents mad.
