5.0 out of 5 stars Give this man a gold star, 12 Jun 2006
By SARAH MCCARTNEY (London, England, UK.) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is the most entertaining business book you'll ever read, although you could study it from start to finish and not be sure what you've learned. You'll have had fun on the way though.
You definitely don't have to work in marketing to appreciate The Marketing Code; it may even put you off applying for a graduate traineeship in the dark arts. Written as a perfect parody of Dan Brown's lickety-split, page turning, truth bending mega-work, Stephen Brown's book is easily read in one sitting, although I made it last for a few days because I didn't want it to end.
I followed the clues and by the finish I think I'd learned what the secret of marketing is, but I'm not certain.
Like the other Brown, Stephen mixes fiction and fact but he also tells outright lies just because he can. He makes his characters tell whoppers too, just to wind us all up, send us down blind alleys and up dark passages. The whole book has its tongue stuck in its cheek (and someone else's too).
If you've studied your Kotler and taken it very seriously you'll probably scream out loud at some of Stephen Brown's outrageous claims; if you haven't the first clue who Kotler is, you'll enjoy it for the rip-roaring adventure story.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have book, 7 Feb 2008
By Mia Hammar (Espoo, Finland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is definitely a cult book! I wouldn't want to define it as a business or a management book only, because it provides so much more than just funny marketing concepts in real-life. I have read it twice but I just love it, not because of all the jokes inside, but because of the magical style, the enjoyable way it is written. Still, I must admit that I suffered while reading; and I know that you will suffer too. I wanted this book to last forever, but I just couldn't put it out of my hands and stop reading.
I think The Da Vinci Code has been totally forgotten, when this book will be really found by the great audience. If you'd like to know why, it is because this is marketing misdirection in practice; you look at the cover but fail to see all the secrets hidden inside. It is impossible to compare this with any well-known best seller; this one is a classic for sure.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic in the Making , 27 Jan 2008
Like it or hate it The History Man by Malcolm Bradbury is now a literary classic which gives an understanding of the hidden life of Academia which is full of intrigue and real human relationships of a sort not thought possible within Ivory Towers. Stephen Brown's novel is surely a classic in the making. It gives yet another window into the hallowed world of Academia and knocks down the door of the Ivory Tower enough to grip you, make you laugh, suffer incredulity and perhaps be moved to tears. It will become a Classic because you and many thousands of readers will enjoy it so much you will want to read the sequels as they come out.

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit up and down
I enjoyed the book as a business based thriller but I'm not sure if I learnt much from it when it comes to marketing strategy. I'm not sure if this was my fault or the author. Read more

Professor Brown is definitly an academician thinking out of Ivory Tower.
