Hi, I'm Emma and here's my review of "Markle Sparkle". Louise invites Mark Spark to a birthday sleepover in a tent at her house. Unfortunately Mark has a Great Big Problem - he's scared of the dark. He turns down the invitation saying that he has to stay with his Great Gran because she's scared that burglars might break in. He tells Great Gran about his problem and, instead, she organises a camp fire feast for both of them. He sleeps beside Great Gran and wakes to hear a bang and a groan and is horrified to find that Great Gran's not in bed! He overcomes his fear of the dark when he goes outside shouting "You leave my Great Gran alone!" The illustrations in this book are simple but very effective.

5.0 out of 5 stars Light and Dark stories 1 Dec 2011

We read this story in a Year 1 class to support our Science work in Light and Dark. the children enjoyed the story immensely, empathising with Mark Spark and laughing out loud at Silly Lily. Gran was a heroine for the way she could toss pancakes even though blind! Another Jacqueline Wilson triumph.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mark Spark in the Dark 15 Mar 2011
Format:Paperback
Mark Spark in the dark by Jacqueline Wilson is a brilliant book because the illustrations are fantastic. The outline of the story is clearly set out from start, middle and end. The book is interesting and makes me want to read on and puts questions in my mind.
What happens in the book: Marks school are raising money for blind people so they have a fun fair. Lucy is having a sleep over for her birthday after the fun raising but Mark is scared of the dark so he tells a lie that he has to stay with his grandmother...
