Ace US, not to be confused with Ace UK (which is a re-issues label), was started in August 1955 in Jackson, Mississippi, by a gent called Johnny Vincent who, prior to that had been acting as a talent scout in the New Orleans area for the Specialty label out of LA. Mark Lamaar who, as we all know is partial to a bit of r'n'r, has compiled a set of his favourites from Ace. He's at pains to say in his informative (and entertaining) Notes that this isn't a best-of set - if you`re looking for that, and why not, then go to the Music Club, 30 track compilation, "Kings of New Orleans R&B". Inevitably there`s some overlap between the sets but it`s minimal.

Track listing below. I should warn that tracks 15 and 16 are transposed in the set listing on the sleeve - the listing below is correct.

1. Huey "Mr Piano" Smith - Don't you just know it
2. The Blue Dots - Please don't tell `em
3. Frankie Lee Sims - Walkin' with Frankie
4. Sammy Myers - My love is here to stay
5. Huey "Mr Piano" Smith - High Blood Pressure
6. H-Bomb Ferguson - Josephine
7. The Supremes - Don't leave me here to cry
8. Joe Tex - Cut it out
9. Earl King - Is Everything Alright?
10. Floyd Dixon - That move me (Things I don't like)
11. Frankie Lee Sims - She like to boogie real low
12. Frankie Ford - Roberta
13. The Blue Dots - Saturday Night Fish Fry
14. Earl King - You can fly high
15. Bobby Marchan - You can't stop her
16. Joe Tex - You little baby faced thing
17. Eddy Seacrest - Rock'n'Roll Bells
18. Hershel Almond - Let's get it on
19. The Phaetons - I love my baby
20. Hershel Almond - Looking for a woman
21. Danny Ray - Love me
22. Hershel Almond - I love you baby
23. Johnny Angel - Baby it's love
24.

I bought this CD as I like all the early rock n roll, rhythm n blues music, wasnt too impressed with it....not the best songs from the featured artists or the best featured artists...there are loads of old artists who are often overlooked and this CD does the same--overlooks them.

I teach rock n roll dance so thought it would have some good tracks to teach along side....not the case, sorry Mark Lamarr you could have chosen better songs, how a lot of these songs could inspire anyone I will never know

definitely gets a thumbs down from me

my rare vinyl quest, part 1 15 May 2011
By E. Phillips - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
I purchased this CD collection to obtain the Johnny Angel song "Baby its love",which is the flip side of his highly collectable 1958 Vin single "Teenage Wedding",which I had already found on another CD collection titled '(not just)A Pretty face and a pompadour',another collection from the archives of the Ace record label of which Vin was an imprint.
