Amazon.co.uk Review

Trying to simulate golf on the Game Boy Advance doesn't seem a particularly obvious idea and nor, quite frankly does adding Mario and a role-playing game element – but despite it all Mario Golf: Advance Tour is easily the best portable sports sim yet seen.

The central simulation of golf is extremely solid and features the traditional three-click swing power bar, after touch, topspin, backspin and all the expected problems with wind, grass type and which club to use. The putting is perhaps a little over simplistic but apart from that this is about as realistic a simulation of golf as you could expect on the GBA.

Although realism is king with the golf itself the rest of the game is as charmingly nonsensical as any other Mario game, even though you actually control your own more normal looking character (who can subsequently be uploaded to the GameCube version of Mario Golf) during the game. As mentioned the story mode is much more complex than any normal career mode and is basically a stripped down role-playing game, complete with experience points, shops and non-player characters to chat too.

Add to this a quick game mode that gives you instant access to match, stroke and doubles play, as well as wackier game modes such as Go-Go Gates (a variant on Toadstool Tour's Ring Shot mode), and a fully featured four-player mode that works either on one GBA or linked-up via the forthcoming wireless adapter and you've got the ultimate portable golfing experience – with added Mario. --David Jenkins

Fun:
Mario Golf:Advance Tour is a remake form the Gameboy version and this is really good. When you start the game you choose if you want to be a girl or a boy and right handed or left. Then you get to play the golf.I was really anoyed with it to start with because its really hard learning golf just like that. But then i learnt the Technical shot and now i always get a Birdie or better. There are four different clubs(not golf clubs)Marion,Palms,Dunes ,Links and all of these courses get harder in the order i put them. The Marion tourney has hardly any wind and lots of fairway, which is good. The Palms has a little wind and lots of palms cos its near the beach, the Dunes has lots of cacti and strong winds. But the Links has very strong winds, health which is really thick grass and hard to putt from and fast fairway going extra fast which is quite annoying.Golf fans would go mad at this game and i did.I use to hate golf think it really boring, but now i love it and always watch it.(back to the game)You can also go on the teaching ground and learn short putts mid and long Iron shots and so so which when you pass get Experience points. As the game progesses new little courses get unlocked and ir you complate them you get a custom ticket A,B,C,D which you can get a nice brand new club with.you get a choice of four clubs that maximise one of your skills like control Power or super sweet spot....Also hidden around the course are 1ups that you choose to maximise one or your skills.Absouloutly excellent game golfers or non golfer. Potentially a lot of Replay value here and you come back here to learn technical terms from the dictionary or Polish off your technical shot or Putting skills.

Mario Golf:Advance tour is the first Mario golf in the series on the Game boy Advance. It is a spectacular game giving you the control of many of Nintendos characters including the one and only Super Mario. There are also plenty of different courses to get you into the game.It is an amassing game seeing as i own it and I would recomend for any one to buy it.It is great for playing at the bus station or even in the office.Truely a good game.

Usually mario games are always good.but this is a let down.thegraphics are great fora gamboy advance game.the role playing is unique and adds life to the game.so wheres the catch...well the gameplay is lousy ,very ordinary and far less real than the original mario golf game for the original gameboy.the ball is unrealistic and simply its too easy.theres nothing to it.all you do it control the power .you can use advance settings but why as the easy way always works .the wind has little impact on the balls movment .and to cap it all there no greens just do what the controls ask and you put it everytime .it too easy and after afew plays gets boring.there little skill involved .this is game for 9years old and under as its so easy and simplistic. dissapointing and not challenging or realistic .a step backwards for nintendo and a shame .
