A most interesting & exciting read, I only recently discovered that my uncle was probably with 41, I always knew he'd gone into Salerno quite early on & it was only when I mentioned it to another ex-marine that he said that he would have been with 41 Commando,"and a right rum lot they were" My uncle, George Jackson (Jacko' of course) was a seaman in the Mercs, & had joined the RM Reserves before the war,at
Morpeth Dock Birkenhead when
work was short. He was a Bosun after the war started, & was torpedoed three times before he was "called up" whilst recovering from a bout of malaria.I thought he may have had a mention in the book, he didn't, but it was a damn good read anyway
Bernie McElvogue. Hoylake.
