Book Description

This Marine’s on a mission, and he won’t rest until she’s begging for more…

Preschool teacher Amy Mitchell has been trying to move on with her life, regretful of letting “the one” get away. She’s determined to forget about love and focus on her students and the art studio she dreams of opening someday.

Her hunky neighbor Marine Captain Jason Patterson has regrets of his own—and although there’s no turning back to fix mistakes of the past, he’s determined to do things the right way this time around. Preferably with the brunette bombshell right across the street.

As their paths cross, Amy realizes a little romance may not be a bad thing. But after a heated night in her neighbor’s bed leaves her questioning their chance of a future together, she starts to wonder—will the sparks between them only leave her burned?

A Marine for Christmas is the first book in the new series by Makenna Jameison, HEARTS ABLAZE: Men in Uniform.

3.0 out of 5 stars Quick easy romantic read 22 Jan. 2014

This is a nice easy romantic read which follows the usual path. Amy is a thirty-one year old primary school teacher who's single after breaking up with her boyfriend Ben, now Ben's moved on quicker than Amy could have imagined or likes which hurts but then she begins to notice her tall, handsome, and fit neighbour Marine Corps Captain Jason Patterson and wonders why she's never noticed him before.
I personally wasn't struck on Melissa, Amy's friend I felt too much time was spent on her at the expense of Amy and Jason. I was confused initially about Amy and Bens breakup since it didn't seem to make sense but this is explained so hang in there. Amy also overreacted big style about something.
So this is a quick ok romance with a couple of nice characters it ended a bit abruptly for me but I suspect their story will continue in the background of future books.

3.0 out of 5 stars An ok 3 stars 13 May 2014
By Peabody
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Was a decent little kindle freebie.

Odd thing here and there was a bit annoying, such as the heroine seeming to think the hero should have blurted out all his life story in the 2 weeks or so they had been getting to know each other.

Not sure why we got the odd few paragraphs from the POV of her friend, when there was no resolution for her.

And something being mentioned late on in the book, with absolutely no hint whatsoever that it had happened previously, felt like it was added late on as an afterthought to make the heroines reaction to the hero not mentioning something more understandable.

But all in was an ok short read

4.0 out of 5 stars very enjoyable 22 Jan. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Read and enjoyed this light romance. Not much about marines, thats really just his occupation. Jason is really nice and considerate. Only bugbear, why would amy get upset with him because he didnt mention ex or son? They were at start of relationship, things get disclosed the more a relationship develops. Conversely he could say her disclosure during fight should have been disclosed before they went anywhere. It was more pertinent to whether a guy would want a relationship with her not vice versa. She was being precious. The ending was a bit abrupt. Besides that was very enjoyable and will look to read more from this author.
I didnt notice any typos, repetition or inconsistencies which is great for a kindle book.Well done Makenna.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not sure who was the heroine? 17 Aug. 2014
By Mrs. K. Lewis - Published on Amazon.com

I selected the one star rating because it was a simple story with very little depth and very little to no continuity. I don't understand the high stars and it's frustrating when people say I just love the book. Tell us why. Not sure if everyone gets a prompt from Amazon which ask WHY did you like or dislike. I guess not.

The following are just a few things I disliked
1. The friends inner dialogue took center stage when the story was about the hero and heroine.
2. The breakup with the boyfriend didn't make any sense (IMO) not sure why it was mentioned (better yet I wasn't convinced it was needed).
3. It was a short story however too much time was spent with inner dialogue and not enough with the major characters.
4. Why was it called "Marine" when it could've been any number of occupations (consultant, plumber, construction worker, etc.). This reader didn't get to know the Marine and that's why it could've been any occupation. Nothing special here.

5.0 out of 5 stars All I Want For Christmas . . . 30 Dec. 2013
By SamanthaReads - Published on Amazon.com

Wow! Another great holiday read from Makenna Jameison. She knows what every girl really wants for Christmas . . . a strong Marine with a tender, caring side! Not only is Marine Captain Jason Patterson hot; he is a single father who prides himself on taking care of his son. Amy, his single, gorgeous neighbor is all any man could wish for. And Jason seems like just the kind of man that Amy might want in her life. But Amy is not sure that love with this Marine is possible. She is not ready to face heartbreak during the holidays. A Marine for Christmas has a great story line. It is a steamy, romantic holiday book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Lovely Story 27 Jan. 2014

I have read Makenna's short stories and thought they were great, this one tops them all I think. It was a lovely story. I wish the story was longer, to find out how Jason, Brian, and Amy's star their new life. I also hope that Melissa has her own story. You are going to love A Marine For Christmas.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, quick read 26 Jan. 2014
By JigsawGirl - Published on Amazon.com

This was a really quick read. In fact, it moved so fast that I felt l like I had missed something. Or, maybe it felt like that because there was so much info in the book that could have been more developed that I felt like I was missing something.

Amy had 3 girlfriends and you got a quick glance into each of their lives. Enough to peak your interest, but make you wonder at the same time, was this much info really important enough to the overall story to include it at all?

Jason, on the other hand, had no friends. He had an ex wife, a child, and a brother. Jason was strong, honest, a devoted, loving father, and seemed to have a great deal of integrity. Why no friends? Why mention the brother at all? I know, because they needed someone to bring Jason's son from California.

Jason and Amy had chemistry, but it felt like you were being rushed to the point when their relationship became intimate. Just seemed to me that the sex was the goal of the book. Therefore, everything else was filler.

What about the relationship with her ex? The issue she was dealing with as a result of that relationship? Why have her ex and his new girlfriend come to the house to pick up his skis, but there is no interaction? Why insinuate there may have been something going on with her ex, Ben and his new girlfriend before he and any broke up and not explored that further. It was mentioned on a couple of occasions about how quickly Ben got involved with the new one.

I couldn't decide between two or three stars. I wish I could give it 2.5 stars. It was almost like reading a really good outline of a story that the writer was going to fill in with more detail.
