Reviews

Box set containing three popular Marilyn Monroe movies and a biographical documentary. In 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' (1953), Lorelei Lee (Monroe) and her showgirl partner Dorothy (Jane Russell) are a pair of gold-diggers who go to Paris in search of rich husbands, and set their sights on the wealthy male passengers on their transatlantic liner crossing. In the meantime they must fend off unsuitable beaux - including the US Olympic team. Best known for its musical numbers, including 'Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend'. In 'How to Marry a Millionaire' (1953), three models (Lauren Bacall, Monroe and Betty Grable) rent an expensive New York apartment and set out to catch millionaire husbands. Suitable millionaires prove to be thin on the ground, however, and all three find that true love wins out after all - especially for Bacall, whose choice turns out to have been a millionaire all along. In 'The Seven Year Itch' (1955), happily-married Richard Sherman (Tom Ewell) is left in New York City while his wife and child go on summer vacation. His lively imaginings of what a summer of freedom has in store seem to have some validity when a beautiful and sensuous young girl (Monroe) moves into the sublet upstairs. Finally, 'Marilyn Monroe: The Final Days' looks at Monroe's final project, 'Something's Got To Give', one of the most talked about unfinished films in history. Through interviews, never-before-seen footage and an edited reconstruction of the film, the documentary takes a fascinating look back at the life and times of the world's most famous and beloved stars.

A very good way to get a cheap copy of the final days dvd featuring MM on the set of her last film 'Somethings Got to Give' which is priced higher as an individual purchase. This film was never completed due to her absences and then death. Having just read The Secret Life Of MM I think this footage really compliments it as the filming was very controversial. Its interesting to compare Doris Days version 'Move Over Darling'.

The box set in my opinion should have include Some Like it Hot.

The image on the box is not great and really doesnt do her justice at all, a strange choice. Also I dont find that the DVDs stay in their holders and I generally find them falling loose whenever I open the box. As a result How to marry a millionaire is scratched.

My daughter is going through a phase of loving Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe . I of course am going along with this as I liked them as a child watching the movies on tv. Nowadays where t.v shoves no -knicker and drunk girls swearing like sailors ,vomiting and doing equally dog like actions, (seriously it's like Jeremy Kyle after show party) Marilyn Monroe is a breath of fresh air. The classic curvy lady acting like a lady. Marilyn Monroe has more class and captivates men's attention like no other . The movies in this DVD set are funny and sweet. I highly recommend this set to anyone looking for a movie set that you can watch with all the family.

I remember watching these films when I was young. I love the story lines and the acting. Marilyn Monroe and Betty Grable were stunningly beautiful and the cast were well chosen. I just love these films and I am going to watch them over the Easter holiday with some friends. Can't wait!
