This is a book which has been out of print for many years, and i am overjoyed it is available again.
Unlike this authors books about Milly-Molly-Mandy,which are fun but undeniably prosaic,Marigold is quite a magical story, with the most delightful illustrations.I have never forgotten the picture of Marigold floating out of her window and over the garden in her bed,or bathing in a beautiful pool, all apparently courtesy of Godmother!
When you look, you find a moral in this story, but it does not detract from the feel-good factor.Reading this again,i was shocked at how few possessions children seemed to have then(1934)and how obedient they were expected to be.Times certainly have changed, but i dont think enjoyment of this book ever will.I loved it just as much,if not more, after 35 years.
