Biography

Unquestionably one of the greatest American rock bands ever, Creedence Clearwater Revival will best be remembered for their unique bayou sound popularized in songs like "Proud Mary" and "Green River."

Although their music evoked the raw, gospel-tinged sound of the rural South, Doug Clifford, Stu Cook, and Tom and John Fogerty actually hailed from El Cerrito, ... Read more in Amazon's Creedence Clearwater Revival Store

3.0 out of 5 stars worth the stars for the singles...just! 19 Jan 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This was the final Creedence studio album.Rhythm guitarist Tom had left for a low key but consistent solo career. The remaining trio elected(depending on whos story you read)to share out the writing, singing and playing.John Fogerty's post CCR. output has been the poorer for not having drummmer Doug Clifford and bassist Stu Cook backing him;but when the drummer got to write and sing on this album, the results were woeful.Stu Cook's"Door to Door(a single "b"side from the year before)and driving "Sail Away"show real potential but the seemingly venomous"Take it like a friend" is dire. It was mainman John Fogerty's task to lift the album but he was heavily involved with his first solo set,the far more country than rock"Blue Ridge Rangers" project and it showed..."Lookin' for a reason" and a straight run through Rick(y)Nelson's "Hello Mary Lou"are great but were not what might have been expected from CCR.That left the excellent "Sweet hitch hiker", but that had been a chart single eight months earlier so most fans already had it.One song alone saves the album:the magnificent "Someday Never Comes" as Fogerty bares his soul and allows access deep, deep inside his own father/son situation. By the end of 1972,the year this was issued,Creedence were no more, the split acrimonious and still not healed today.Unless you are a completist, you'd be better off with a copy of "chronical"the greatest hits collection than this. John Fogerty is up and running once again with another backing band but the sound that he had with CCR. has never been bettered. His songs, guitar and powerful vocals were perfectly supported by Cook and Clifford....I don't believe we shall hear it quite as good again!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Completes a collection 31 Mar 2013

No up to previous recordings. Lack of passion. Does show what happens when a group are coming to an end.
