Book Description

12 Sep 2012 3836508079 978-3836508070 limited collector's ed
Art meets design.

He has designed chairs, restaurants, boutiques, cars, planes, and even a space ship. For Australian industrial designer Marc Newson, the sky is no limit. From mass-produced products to designer furniture to fashion, Newson has blurred boundaries, mapped new territories, and made himself an international superstar.

This book explores his complete works to date via encyclopedia-style entries, arranged chronologically by categories: art editions, furniture, objects, timepieces, transport, and unreleased projects. From early iconic works such as Lockheed Lounge (which holds the world record for the highest price paid for a piece of designer furniture, at over two million dollars) to more recent, large scale projects such as the Ford O21C concept car, the Kelvin jet, and the interior of Qantas' Airbus A380, this tome leaves no stone unturned.

Features of this Limited Collector's Edition include:

encyclopedia entries arranged by category for all of Newson's works to date;

extended, in-depth case studies for a selection of Newson's most important projects: Kelvin jet, Qantas Airbus A380, Gagosian art editions, Ford O21C, Ikepod watches, and Riva Boat;

visual index cataloguing Newson's complete works chronologically with critical details and page number for the item's extended entry in the book;

and, exclusive interview by Newson's longtime collaborator and friend, Louise Neri.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is just WRONG 11 Nov 2012
By Deborah Louise - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I just read a NYT article on Newson, whom I have long admired, from earlier this year, which stated that there was a book coming out. I was excited to see more - all, actually - that Newson had produced, so I checked out Amazon and was assaulted by an almost thousand buck pricetag. What? So I go to Taschen's website, thinking that surely the affordable paperback will be forthcoming. But no. The next edition will be in leather and will cost $6,000. I'm sorry, but what world does Taschen inhabit? Is it the same one that I live in? Do they not get how last century and - dare I say it? - declasse it is to cater to the top 1%? I will just watch Objectifed on Netflix again, and surf my iPad for his stuff. Thanks for nothing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long overdue! 31 Dec 2012
By Carlitony - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Marc Newson is one of the best designers of the last decade. I was surprised that no higher-end publications had been released about his ground breaking design. Thankfully so, Taschen delivered what was long overdue. A gorgeous book that on its own is a piece of Newson's design. Yes, it might sound expensive for the regular budget, but definitely worthwhile, a unique design signed and numbered by Marc Newson himself. I only wish the previous reviewers had actually gotten the book before writing a review. Highly recommended!

1.0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous 20 Sep 2012
By cha - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I just want to know more about Marc Newson doesn't mean I need to spend $1000 on a book!!! A book can be a piece of artwork, but this book SHOULD NOT! Marc designed a lot of good products that are affordable, why a book about these products is not! I cannt understand such an "artist" who made this book!
