Product Description

Wilderness of the Mind is a celebration of Marc's life and work through a host of photographs, drawings, lyrics, notes and personal reminiscences, the vast majority of which have never been published before, making it a treasure-trove for fans and collectors-and an eye- opener for more casual admirers, as Marc's diaries and scribbles openly reveal his sexuality and early way of life ("No rent to pay, landlord's a queen."). Many of the photographs were taken by co-author Caron, and are published here for the first time. There are dozens of pieces-lyrics, notes, letters, diaries and drawings-Marc's own hand, many given personally by Marc to Caron, or to Caron and John by Marc's parents after his death. Few of these have been seen before. Among those interviewed exclusively for the book are MIKE PRUSKIN, Marc's friend and early manager ("No-one has ever interviewed me before, and I'm the one who got Marc his first recording contract!"); ANDY ELLISON, co- member of John's Children; Marc's manager TONY HOWARD, who has remained silent until now and who also contributes an approving Foreword to the book; and MIKE MANSFIELD, producer of Supersonic and other notable rock shows, who talks about Marc's showmanship and their friendship. Morrissey offers a charming appreciation of his early hero. The book also includes a detailed look at Marc's TV and film appearances.

This book is an absolute delight. From the start of the book it's obvious this isn't a biography in the traditional sense - more a snapshot of certain times in Marc Bolan's career. John and Caron take you on a journey based on their own experiences following Marc Bolan and his group T.Rex on tour. The obviously love for their subject shines through and the book is extensively illustrated with their own photographs of Bolan and many previously unpublished shots. Examples of Marc's own handwriting are included as are various bits of Marc Bolan ephemera. The book has such atmosphere - the authors get across their sense of excitement at attending T.Rex concerts with a real passion. A very nice book that will accompany excellent Bolan biographies such as Mark Paytress's "Twentieth Century Boy"

If you are a fan of Marc Bolan and T.Rex this is a book every fan should have. it is written by two extraordinary fans themselves John Willans and Caron Thomas, and includes photos from their own personal collection of lyrics, drawings, photos etc which as a fan if it wasn't for them we would not get to see. There are also great recollections of Marc from such great people as Morissey. It was obvious to me this book took a lot of thought to put together and was put together with a great deal of love and passion and what impressed me most was the respect they showed in what to include in the book. I admit I came to like Marc's music after his sad and untimely death not really getting him at the height of his popularity. This book gives character to the icon he was and always will be, it shows the touching human side of an inspirational and brilliant musician. A book I will treasure forever.
