This book was written by John and Shan Bramley who used to run the Marc Bolan fan club so they should know their subject. This, however, is a fairly bog standard affair. Marc's life is chronicled but it is written as a kind of synopsis of every biography that has ever been written about him. Some glaring errors appear from time to time and the text is mainly unexceptional. Where the book does shine is in the selection of never before published photographs by Marc's friend Keith Morris. Many of the shots were taken during the filming of the seminal glam rock movie "Born To Boogie" and feature many off camera moments. Morris also did many publicity photo shoots of Bolan and these also feature heavily. Buy the book for the photographs, the text is incidental. For the best biography of Bolan seek out the Mark Paytress "Twentieth Century Boy" book.

This book was written by John & Shan Bramley who run the Official Marc Bolan Club. After 18 years of working for Marc (since they formed the 'marc Bolan Family Society' back in 1978, they have taken a well earned break. A follow up book is hopefully on the cards. The Legendary Years however is worth the money for the images alone. Some delightful 'fun' shots of Marc taken by Keith Morris. Yes there are some 'glaring errors' in this book, but then there are in Mark Paytress' "Twentieth Century Boy" too! But I agree you should buy the book for the photographs and also for some interesting quotes and history too.

This is an enjoyable read without offering the depth of Mark Paytress's masterly offering on Marc's life (this book was published some time ago)
John & Shan Bramley show their obviously deep seated affection for all things related to Marc, some might argue to the detriment of the book as a whole. However, so much negative (often spiteful & factually inaccurate) stuff has been written about Marc, over the years that sometimes (as with this book) it's just a pleasant change to read an account of his career written by people who are such big fans, that they concentrate almost completely on the positive & almost (but not entirely) "airbrush" the bad bits.
Not the vey, very best Bolan book ever but still very, very enjoyable. The photos are very special & it's worth getting hold of the book for that reason alone.
It's a very positive account of Marc & his career, written by two fans who emphasise the undoubted achievements & downplay the shortcomings - and to be fair, why not ?

Fluff! 9 Jun. 2012
By Stephen - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I bought this book several years ago and have read it a couple of times since. It is fluff.

If you want to read a detailed, objective biography of the great man, look elsewhere. If you want a coffee-table book about his glam years, written by a fan and containing some great photos, this is for you. It is decently written, but without depth.

I would buy it _after_ one or two other Bolan biographies out there.

You can't fool the children of the revolution.
