This 8 5/8 inch square 144-page perfect bound softcover book displays full-page images of each of the 124 marbled paper designs. The book begins with a 2-page history of marbled papers and image rights information, in nine languages (18 pages), followed by 121 marbled paper designs nicely printed in color on heavy paper. The other three designs appear as the title page and the page immediately following. A CD with the images is affixed inside the back cover in a plastic envelope.
The designs include examples of comb, "French curl," and stone marbling styles, some variations of those, and a few with decorative elements. All are interesting, intricate, and colorful. Each image in the book is numbered (the page number), the number being the file name on the CD. Although the printed images are square, the CD images are of varying rectangular proportions. Images on the CD are JPG in both high and low resolution. The high resolution images are saved in the CMYK color space with 300 ppi resolution. The long dimension of most of the high resolution images is 1772 pixels, but some are slightly smaller. The low resolution images are saved in the RGB color space with 72 ppi resolution. The long dimension of these images is roughly one-third of the high resolution images, but the size reduction is not consistent. The irregularity of the designs precludes creating repeatable patterns without borders.
The Pepin Press image rights declaration includes the following, "For non-professional applications, single images can be used free of charge. The images cannot be used for any type of commercial or otherwise professional application - including all types of printed or digital publications - without prior permission...." Also noted is that "...larger and/or vectorized files are available for most images and can be ordered...." For a commercial graphic artist requiring large, high fidelity images, Pepin Press volumes are essentially catalogs.
