Product Description

Synopsis

How to Train for a Marathon and Have a Life; By the author of Galloway's Book on Running (over 750,000 copies sold); Over 30,000 copies sold of the previous edition; Marathon running is a sport that many consider too daunting, better in the viewing than the doing. Olympian Jeff Galloway dispels such notions in a book that takes the mystery - and misery - out of distance running. Marathon! shows how just about anyone can run a marathon and, given the right attitude and training, finish the race. Galloway has designed a low-mileage marathon training program that has been used by over 10,000 people with a 98 percent success rate. The book includes the latest information on workouts, form innovations, pace charts, prediction tables, and motivation strategies.

Having spoken for years about doing a marathon, a friend I met while in Ameria recommended this book to help get started. The idea of breaking the 26.2 miles into 10 minute running segments was a terrific incentive to get out there and start. After owning the book for 5 weeks, I created my own schedule and completed my first 10 mile race at a sub 9min mile pace. A brilliant book to help get your mind around attempting 26.2 miles!!

I'm doing my first marathon this year and a friend recommended I read one of Jeff Galloways books. Overall I found this very useful. I skipped the chapters on motivation as I'm not lacking in that area but I found the information on diet, running techniques and the programmes very useful. I've tried his walk break technique and plan to use it in the marathon.
