Product Description

“It is the Dawn of the Second Coming…and the Fourth Reich.”

The theft of the Holy Spear of Destiny.
A grisly, ritualistic murder.
A challenge to the very origins of Christianity…

The Holy Spear of Destiny has been removed from its display in the Vienna Hofburg Museum, and strangely vandalised.

When she is called upon by the Hofburg authorities to test the authenticity of the spear, metallurgist Vanessa Descartes quickly realises she is involved in a horrific murder case. The severed head of a museum security guard has been left upon a silver plate, and grotesque ritual mutilations carried out upon the body.

She is joined in the investigation by eccentric Oxford scholar Dr. Emmanuel Khalamanga, who is convinced of a connection to ancient Holy Grail legends and Professor Tomas de Carranza, best-selling author of radical Biblical histories.

This diverse trio find themselves in a race against time with the Vienna police department to solve the growing mystery. But as they interpret the symbols left at the scene, and discover more pieces of the puzzle, a greater and even more terrifying reality reveals itself – the existence of an invisible ‘holy war’ that has been fought since the Middle Ages, and is about to end in blood and death on the streets of Vienna.

And should the wrong side claim victory with the power of the holy relics, an unthinkable holocaust will be unleashed, driven by dark mysticism and insane genetic science…

“Indiana Jones meets The Da Vinci Code...I would recommend it...”
-Our Book Reviews Online (ourbookreviewsonline.blogspot.com)

“If you like your thrillers to have that touch of the ritual and 'outside normal', then this is the book for you.”
-The Self-Publishing Magazine, Winter 2010

'Maranatha' is followed by the prequel 'Venus in Saturn', set 7 years before, which is also available from Amazon Kindle.

From the Inside Flap

"Ritual murder?" Vanessa repeated, sure she had misheard.
"The corpse has been subjected to some considerable heat, and drained of various bodily fluids. It has also been disembowelled, and castrated, like some kind of medieval execution. What's even more frightening, I had a call this morning - a crank, I thought at the time - who actually told me to expect to find just that. 'Dismembered' - the very word he used."
"Jesus Christ," was all Vanessa could find to say. Finally; "I hope you can track this `crank' down."
"Better than that, I have his number, and he's on his way in as we speak. He's a Doctor of Medieval European Literature at Oxford University. He's convinced that this all has something to do with the Holy Grail legends...."

More About the Author

Chaz Wood currently writes for a living, though not the kind of material he would prefer. His day job involves responding to technical queries via email for one of the UK's biggest supplier of Broadband internet services.

Though he trained as a graphic artist in Dundee, and still does freelance illustration work in that field, it was in writing that he found his preferred means of self-expression.

By blending the two disciplines, he has produced several series of comic books over the years, a full length graphic novel ('The Black Flag' for Amazon Kindle) and countless works of sci-fi, horror and fantasy artwork, some of which are showcased in a recent anthology which he also edited, 'A Surfeit of Mandrake'.

On New Year's Day, 2006, he started writing 'Maranatha', the first book in the 'Trinity Chronicles' series, which was partly composed and edited during lunch breaks on quiet back shifts and features many of his personal interests: the history and development of Western religion, conspiracy theories, occult symbolism and psychology.

This was followed in 2011 by the prequel. 'Venus in Saturn', which sets up the backstory for the forthcoming third book in the cycle, 'The Keys of Heaven, the Ashes of Hell'.

Late 2012 saw the release of the dark cyberpunk novel 'Malaria 9', set in a parallel London of the near future.

Since 2010 he's also scripted and drawn the weekly tech support webcomic 'Geekz', hosted by 2Laugh.com, and recently released an exclusive Kindle compilation of the best strips in that series.

Currently he's working on the second volume of the epic series of illustrated fantasy books, entitled 'The Wish & the Will', as well as a modern and graphic retelling of Wagner's 'Ring' Cycle, all exclusive to Amazon Kindle.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sorry. I thought I was purchasing a Christian novel! 25 Nov 2012

I don't need foul language (what a potty mouth). I only read the first few pages and find this author sensitive to nothing (maybe poison ivy). His writing is despicable and as far as honoring the Lord, "fageddaboudit". Don't waste your money, know matter how little. Dear Mr. Wood don't quit your day job and read the bible, you need Jesus!
