Product Description

Sam Duckworth has been keeping himself busy as ever as Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly have announced the release of a new album, hot on the heels of last year s solo Duckworth effort The Mannequin. The record, titled Maps, will be released through Cooking Vinyl on May 7th. Maps sees GCWCF refine and focus the burgeoning ideas first addressed in 2010 s self-titled third album. Album opener The Real McCoy is a straight up indie-pop belter that touches on a sound reminiscent of early Blur, a direction GCWCF were leaning towards in the previous record and is effectively realised in Maps. Another clear example of this is apparent in lead single Daylight Robbery, a tune that boasts an infectious sing along intro before breaking into a catchy up-tempo foot tapper. The video for The Real McCoy made its debut on TNA Xplosion broadcast in the UK and footage will also air globally on the TNA IMPACT WRESTLING TV show. Teaming up with one of the newest and most acclaimed film-makers, the BAFTA nominated Luke Snellin, TNA IMPACT WRESTLING and GCWCF have produced an incredibly tight, stylish and moving piece of film. Daylight Robbery will be available as a single from April 30th via Cooking Vinyl The record also features guest vocals from acclaimed UK hip hop MC Jehst on The Long And Short Of It All. Maps is testament to Duckworth s eclectic tastes yet maintains a narrative and never strays too far from his signature and acclaimed styles, an accomplishment that many musicians strive to achieve in their careers.

Many in the music industry bemoan that there so few songwriters who write about the times in which we live. Well Sam does and does so with wit and metaphor. The social and political landscape is documented in post modern parlance and put into rhyme and song.
The direction and production is upbeat indie 'Britpop' giving us a taste of what could be a live show to inspire, challenge, and yet give us hope that change is still possible. The production is deliberately 'tongue in cheek' almost larger then life reflecting the writers emergence from a darker period of his life perhaps? The humour and hyperbole is there in the songs like Snap(card game of snap) and Call of Duty( video game).

For some, the political references may be to much and our comfortable almost apathetic cosiness with consumerism is challenged; in what seems to be an autistic disregard for our feelings in songs like The Joy of Stress or Offline maps or Easy. Yet this is not business as usual far from it,but a call to action or at least believe that change in our times is possible.

This may well be Get Cape. Wear Cape.Fly's 'swan song' but his legacy to his vision will be an inspiration to many who don the guitar to keep singing out! Stirring stuff indeed, good people will not stay silent.
