Book Description

19 Aug 1999 Dragonfly Books
Illustrated in full color. In this playful introduction to maps and geography, step by simple step, a young girl shows readers herself on a map of her room, her room on the map of her house, her house on the map of her street--all the way to her country on a map of the world. Once the reader is familiar with the maps, she demonstrates how readers can find their own country, state, and town--all the way back to their room--on each colorful map. Easy-to-read text, bright artwork, and charming details give children a lot to search for and will have them eager to help navigate on the next family vacation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Classrooms! 14 Dec 1998
By A Customer
Format:Library Binding
This book is a great one to share in the classroom as an introduction to mapping. It begins with a girl making a map of her room, her house, her street, etc. Followup activities in the classroom that work well are mapping a student's room, house, classroom, and school.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book but focus on America 23 Sep 2010
Format:Paperback
I brought this book on Amazon to use with my Early Years class (ages4/5) as we're doing a whole school theme on 'Where in the world?'
It is a good book with excellent pictures and different scale maps, it somes out from her house through the various stages to where she is on the globe and then back to her house again. But it is based on a little girl from America so talks about States. Having said that you could use it as a comparism to a UK setting!

I bought this book for Pre-School and was impressed with the content. A great way to explain how we fit into the world, and that we all have our special place on the map. I would have given it 5 stars if in had been English rather than American, as they mentioned state rather than county.
