Mlalazi has given us an adrenaline packed whistlestop tour of a very extreme side of the immigrant experience in J'burg. For such a short book there is a wide array of interesting characters. The only problem is that all these characters are driven by one thing - money. The story at times seems too plot driven with little regard given to character development. While South Africa is very violent it is difficult to suspend disbelief when the story is about an immigrant who witnesses 9 murders and makes a million rand all in less than 4 weeks. On the whole this is an exciting debut by an author with plenty of potential.
