Samia Farah was born on August 2nd 1971 in Tunisia.. Her father had always been a music lover, listening freely and extravagantly to everything from jazz to European and Arab classics, albeit with a certain preference for the Egyptian crooner Muhammad Abdul Wahab, known as the supreme modernizer and the first artist to prove that Western and Eastern cultures are compatible. So Samia's ear travelled freely from one world to another. In France, Sarah Vaughan and Nina Simone caught Samia's attention and gave her an idea of what is meant by vocal style. Then came rap and ragga and she experimented with their broken phrasing in the female group Mama Benz: A Beautiful and worldy album from a chanteuse of exotic charm and depth.

I knew of Samia Farah through On-U Sound and Adrian Sherwood, and found her vocals beautiful, so decided to purchase this.
Really nice range of styles, although I have to say I still find the reggae-influenced ones the best.

Another great CD from Samia,

I bought her first CD and was so mesmerized by her sultry voice that I had to get this one. If you have her first CD, then you must get this one. It is as good if not better.
Again you hear her wide variety of musical styles. But, in every song, that same Samia trademark sultry beautiful voice. Something about the combination of the songs being sung in French and her voice just plain sounds amazing. If you want something different and cool to listen to then look no further. |
