2008 was a good year for Maysa. Not only did she sing on Incognitos brilliant Tales from from the Beach album , but she gave us this gem .
Very much Latin and laid back grooves ,this was very enjoyable. Those of you who listen to Jazz FM will know that Peter Young and Ralph Tee rated this album very highly( Ralph Tees album of the year )
The uptempo Jazzy Happy feelings and Higher Ground are superb along with Simpalico,Grateful,Take me away, never really ever and the love so true being standout cuts.
Excellent stuff , one of the best albumns last year

Metamorphosis

Singer and regular guest vocalist on many albums of Incognito, Maysa Leak releases her much-anticipated new CD titled Metamorphosis.

The album kicks off with the cool sound of "My Destiny" featuring Najee. On the tracks "Simpatico" and "Higher Ground" (featuring Nick Colionne's guitar & Najee's flute playing) Maysa's vocal is backed up with a Latin feel. On the songs "Take Me Away" (with it's lyrical reference to the soul classic Don't Let It Go To Your Head by Jean Carne) and "Grateful", these tracks are a nice down-tempo style. Colionne is also featured on the track "Let's Figure It Out (A Song For Bluey)" which is a highlight for me on this album, 7 minutes of instrumental and vocal in a smooth jazz/soul/house style.

The song "I Need A Man" sees Maysa deliver a strong lyrical message. The song "Happy Feelings" accurately describes its feel good sound. The ability to deliver classy ballads is one of Maysa's many talents and "Love So True" and "Walk Away" confirm this. The instrumental "A Conversation With The Universe" is a brilliant piece of music with its percussive and spaced-out beats. The final two tracks are covers of Michael Jackson's "I Can't Help It" and Stevie Wonder's "All I Do". Both tracks show that when it comes to covering a song Maysa can deliver.

This new release from Maysa in my opinion is one the releases of 2008. As with all her previous releases a Maysa album is always a great addition to the soul music world. Highly recommended.

Maysa's Metamorphosis seems to have it all: words of encouragement regarding shaping your future (My Destiny), nicely-slotted sampling (Take me away), and even a checklist for the ideal man (I need a man)! (Single ladies, take note!!)
Also, being a huge jazzhead, I was pleasantly surprised to hear track 7 (Let's figure it out), which started off with some very smooth jazz, then morphed into funky dance beats. The funk continued with track 12's scatting.
I could go on, but you get the drift: I liked this CD! There are also two bonus tracks, covered in Maysa's unique velvety way.
I recommend you buy this, especially for the car. It'll make long drives very pleasurable!

Back To True Form 14 Oct. 2008
By Dr. Feel - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Undeniably the best female vocalist of contemporary soul and smooth jazz, Maysa Leak returns to true form with her latest release "Metamorphosis". After recording two consecutive classic soul remake albums, Maysa came back in full force with this project which contains all new fresh original material. Produced by Rex Rideout, Chris Davis & Ronnie Garrett, Maysa delivers a knock-out performance on each song. A mixture of up-tempo, mid-tempo and sultry love ballads, sprinkled with a taste of Brazilian flavor, Maysa's silky smooth voice will take you to paradise. This is one of those CDs that you can just pop in, press play, pour a glass of Cabernet (or a vino of your taste) and just chill out from beginning to end without hitting the skip button.

The album starts off with "Simpatico", a mid-tempo song about true love and compatibility - a great song to get the mood flowing. Next comes "My Destiny", featuring Najee (on flute, not sax) and "Never Really Ever", which continue in the same vein as the first track. "Let's Figure It Out" features Nick Colionne on some groovy guitar riffs set to a calypso/house beat. Maysa expresses herself like never before on "I Need A Man". No, this is not your typical "I need a man to sex my body" kinda song that you hear so much on mainstream radio these days, but this song has some serious depth and meaning to it - just listen to the lyrics. "Higher Love" is another great song featuring again both Najee & Nick Colionne. All of the remaining tracks are excellent as well. On the last track, "A Conversation With The Universe", you may want to put the wine down and dance a step or two because this song will make you want to groove and move. This is a great closing song for the album.

Maysa co-wrote most of the songs, probably more than any of her previous albums. This is definitely her best album. You'll just have to hear for yourself - take my word for it. When you buy this CD, I recommend getting three copies: one for the ride, one for the crib and one to give to your best friend. They will love you for it!

In my opinion, this will probably turn out to be her biggest selling album and is definitely Grammy Award material. I only hope that smooth-jazz radio actually give this CD some serious airplay and grant Maysa the respect that she truly deserves.

Amazing voice and album! 16 Oct. 2008
By Kboogie - Published on Amazon.com

Whoa, Maysa Leak is back after a short break. Meaning why I say she took a short break because over the last 2 years she has recorded 2 cover albums. Maysa has not done a full album with new material since 2004's smash album "Smooth Sailing" which is a classic.

This time Maysa has switched somethings up for this album. First Rex Rideout has only done 2 songs for this album. Which one song is the smoking first track "Simpatico" and the song "Never Really Ever." Second she has gone into different genre's with this CD (thanks to producer Chris "Big Dog" Davis) when I talk about different genre's I mean r&b and even club music. For instance, take the track "Let's Figure It Out ( A Song For Bluey) The song starts off with this killer smooth jazz beat and has a guitar solo with Nick Colionne and then takes a turn it turns into a club track ( or dance track). So she has gone into a different direction with this CD but it is a good change. I think she pulled it off quite nicely.

Other stand out tracks include "My Destiny" (featuring Najee on flute )and "Higher Love" (featuring Najee on Flute and Nick Colionne again on accoustic guitar) Take Me Away, and the Angela Johnson produced track "Happy Feelings," and the inspiring track "Grateful" which was written for her mother.

I wrote this review from the heart, so I hope this CD touches you as much as it touches me.

Peace, Kendra aka Kmecca.......
