Very disappointed in this, which is a shame because I am a fan of Barnard's work. This is a first British publication of a book, written under the pseudonym Bernard Bastable, which was printed in America in 1998. The story is told by a young woman born in the 19th century - it reads like a Victorian melodrama - and is unlike all his previous work - not recommended at all.
