Book Description

The clack, clack, clack and shrill cry of the Night Terrors grew louder.

Dae froze.

Evan shoved her into the nearest entryway. “Dream!” he yelled into her ear.

But the clacking and the piercing cry wrapped icy tendrils around the pons region of her brain, trapping it and urging a flight response.

“Dream,” Evan screamed again.

“I can’t!” Dae cried. “I am too scared.”

“Dream, Dae! Dream, dammit.”

“They’ll eat us alive!” Her flight mode activated and alerted the NTs. Two Terrors headed toward her. She turned to run.

Evan grabbed her and crushed her into the wall. He placed her face between his hands and forced her to look at him. “Dae, dream. You must. Please,” he begged and whispered.

She caught the deep blue of his eyes in hers.

The dream was there.

Man's Best is a darker novel than the first in the Creep Mesquite series, but stands up perfectly. This is a rare treasure of a book many will enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoying the Creep Mesquite Anthology 20 April 2014
By Kindle Customer - Published on

I read Wyso by this author and enjoyed the short, intriguing and exciting read so I decided to go ahead and see what new adventure she had in store for me. As I read through the first few pages of Man's Best my first thought was "Awesome!" I was instantly hooked to the story. Man's Best is set in the future around 3060 and humanity's love for technology and efficiency has left much of the population unable to dream or be creative. In walks Dae, the heroine of the story, a strong independent young woman who is one of the few people still able to dream, not only that but she is a prodigy at dreaming up memories of times long gone in this tech world. Through the story it is unveiled that this ability to slip into a dream state may be the only way to survive a creepy mutant species called Night Terrors who feed off of peoples fear.

I think the concept of dreams being a defense mechanism is crazy cool! I was excited to see how this 'talent' was developed by the author and enjoyed the originality of the concept and story. Even the idea that the few people who are able to dream become a kind of therapist for those who can't, teaching people who no longer know how to dream what it is to have an imagination. Simply fascinating and beautiful.

My biggest critique is sometimes some of the character interaction was hard to believe, but the characters were so interesting I often overlooked it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally! The Second Book in this Novella Series! 1 May 2014
By Frosty - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
I read novella one of The Creep Mesquite Anthology and loved it so of course I purchased the second novella in the anthology as soon as it was released. I couldn’t put it down. This author doesn’t fail to deliver. Characters you fall in love with, monsters that your have never even imagined, and a story that keeps you up all night in an effort to find out what happens next! Now, I can’t wait until summer when novella 3 will be released.
