Product Description

Product Description
Set in the in the atmospheric and squalid streets of Paris, Maigret sets out to prove the innocence of a man condemned to death for a brutal murder. In another one of Maigret's unconventional and audacious plans, he arranges the escape of the condemned man in an attempt to prove his theory. The presumed murderer goes on the run across Paris and its suburbs, dropping misleading clues along the way and leading Maigret into the labyrinthine twists of the mystery. Maigret is in for more than he bargained for, as he encounters rich American expatriates, dangerous foreigners and their hidden motives.

5.0 out of 5 stars man's head, 17 Feb 2009
By C. Heneghan "chris heneghan" (wales) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
an early maigret (1931) from the first tranche published. Dark and confusing, and unlike the later books, you don't get much of a view of maigret's thought processes, just an account of what happens. A classic of the canon, all the same.

5.0 out of 5 stars Maigret and his creator Simenon excel again, 7 Jun 2009
By Johnrobertson "Bookworm" (Scotland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
A Man`s Head - recently read while on holiday will be my 17 Maigret novel and they continue to reward on every occasion. Excellent observation of the human character and the sense of atmosphere is superb - whether it is the smell of French cigarettes or the ambience of the street cafe - one is instantly transported to France. Maigret`s France - where crime, good food and wine go hand in hand and just like good food and wine Simenon`s books need to be savoured ... not rushed. Each book a unique product - all from the same hand but each one with its own special twist or insight into the mind of the criminal fraternity and mindset where greed, passion and menace all share the stage. A Man`s Head has it all - sit back (with a good wine) and enjoy.
