5.0 out of 5 stars Leek & Manifold Valley Light Railway 27 Sep 2003
an excellent book of photographs with comprehensive captions about a well known local subject. The railway is long gone and the track has been converted into a popular footpath so this book will fascinate both those people who have walked along the way and those who are interested in old railways.
The material is well researched and comprehensive, and the old photographs are well reproduced and easily recognisable.
The first half of the book covers the detail of the company and the rolling stock, and the second half contains many period photographs of the railway and the area through which it ran.
Lindsey Porter has written a number of books about this area and I recommend "The Copper and Lead Mines of Ecton Hill, Staffordshire" and "Byegone Days in Dovedale and the Manifold valley"

3.0 out of 5 stars Archive Photos 25 July 2013

A reasonable if uninspiring little monochrome picture album (stiff paperback). I was a little disappointed that there is no track plan illustration or much in the way of a brief history of the line. While the images are clear and well described the book does leave you with a feeling that you still don't know very much about the line.
The book is out of print, its original published price being 6.99 (2002), always a red rag to dealers to double the price, Picture Book price was 11,99 with other offerings at even greater price hikes, having now had a chance to look at the publication, I would certainly not want to pay any more, very good value at its original price.
