Lacuna Coil are without a shadow of a doubt my all time favourite band. More so than The Beach Boys. More so than The Gathering. Yes, even more so than The Beatles. So why the 2-star review?

Firstly, the tracklisting. Although Karmacode is well covered, sadly the rest is predictable, and as a one disc collection, albums as great as Comalies and Unleashed Memories are sadly restricted to obvious song selections, leaving out many superior album tracks. From Comalies, Daylight Dancer, as great as it is, shouldn't have taken the place of the more accessible Unspoken. Or the career highlight Tightrope. Had this been a two disc set, which to be honest this bands music deserves, I think I may have raised my rating by at least 2-stars.

And the HalfLife ep? Ok, this compilation does have Senzafine, but its still the Unleashed Memories version. This disc should have featured either the songs Halflife, or Hyperfast. Not only are they fan favourites, but two examples of Lacuna playing the finest metal of their career!

Secondly, their is no incentive for anybody to buy this disc. It starts with tracks from their latest album (at the time) and works backwards to the start of their career. For this reason, their is no flow, it doesn't sound cohesive as an album, and some tracks blur as a result.

If this is you're first taste of Lacuna, I can imagine you'll be confused. You would be better off swapping the tracks around, so as to hear Lacuna Coil's evolution from 1998-2006. Its surprisingly fluid! But working backwards, well, it doesn't have quite the same effect.

Also, all these songs can be found on the not-exactly-hard to find Lacuna Coil albums. Each one of those albums is something of a modern rock/metal classic (speak to Dave Mustaine. Ask Amy Lee).

I love Lacuna Coil anyway, but this album covered their career nicely. From the old stuff right up to the more modern tracks

3.0 out of 5 stars Kind Of Weak 'Best Of' Album 13 April 2009
By C. M. Gillum - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Gathering a larger following with each release Lacuna Coil has no chance of slowing or quitting at this point. When a band reaches such status it is only a matter of time before their record label throws together a collection of their songs and attempts to make a buck off new fans. Half the time they make decent song selections that includes all the songs the bands known for and other times it just seems like they threw a few popular tracks onto one disc and slapped the bands name on it to make a buck, sadly here we get the later.

Don't get me wrong these are good songs and I am a long time fan of Lacuna Coil but this album seems to focus only on Lacuna Coil's later albums. Yes there is a few goodies from the past but they are over shadowed by the newer songs. Not to mention the order of the songs on the album is horrid. It's like they threw a couple old songs on the end just to say that it covers the whole realm of Lacuna Coil.

Such tracks as 'Stately Lover', 'The Secret', 'Stars' and many more have all become common radio friendly tracks from the Lacuna Coil discography. Also it would have been interesting if they had mixed in some more obscure tracks that don't get air play rather then only focus on the popular singles. Or maybe even make it a two disc with a wide array of songs from the band, preferably well mixed rather then grouping all the newer and older songs together.

All in all the quality of the tracks is good and though I purchased this out of being a fan of the group I do not recommend it to anyone. I would advise new fans to buy either Unleashed Memories or Comalies then move on from their. This is easily one of the worst 'Best Of' CD's I have seen in a while and I am sure the band had nothing to do with it aside being forced by their label to sign the rights to make this. Support the band and buy their studio albums, thanks for reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cool new Cd 27 April 2009

I think this is a very good cd; although it would have been nice to know ahead of time that all the songs were released on their other cd's. But if you like Lacuna Coil & don't want to purchase each cd separately you'll want to have this in your collection.
