Product Description

Police brutality never felt so good!

Notorious video nasty creator William Lustig and B-Movie legend Larry Cohen return to the dirty streets for a unique high speed collision of the slasher movie and police thriller in Maniac Cop, a blood splattered tale of brutal cop vengeance from beyond the grave.

When reports come in of a man in a police uniform committing gore drenched bloody murder on the city streets, officer Jack Forrest (Bruce Campbell) stands accused. Now, with few friends, powerful enemies and a psychopathic slayer still at large, it s up to Jack to prove he s not guilty and bring down the killer.

Now, Arrow video brings the Maniac Cop back from the 80s video vault to stalk the night time streets once more, looking for fresh victims...

Amazing release 4 Nov 2011
By J. Pike TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Blu-ray|Amazon Verified Purchase
I love the fact that so many of my favourite films are being upgraded to Blu Ray compared to when it was first introduced and only your standard blockbuster was released.

I pre-ordered Maniac cop a few months ago when it was first announced and at the time I watched my synergy DVD release. A few months later my blu ray copy arrived and the difference in picture quality is outstanding. The DVD release was old and dirty and was just about passable. Arrow have really cleaned this release up and it looks great.

When you add all the extras including the mini poster, booklet, reversible sleeve (it's the little things some times) and extras you feel like you're getting good value for your money.

The plot, well I'll leave that for anyone who hasn't watched this film before to find out for themselves and no need to remind fans of the film what happens.

5 Stars from me.

The first thing that greets you with this excellent blu-ray release is the terrific classic slasher-style artwork. It's truly over the top in that great 70's & 80's slasher movie way and shows the amount of care Arrow have put into the re-release.
This applies to the movie as well - it's got a better conversion that some other more major films, suffering none of the dreaded moments when the quality plummets to VHS blurriness and then back to blu-ray sharpness because they lost a bit of the original print. The whole of this film looks excellently sharp and clear.
The story's a little lacklustre, as a cop comes back for revenge - not in the plot, but in the way it's done. For fans of more creative stalk and slash pictures, the lack of any real cat-and-mouse or suspense will be a let down. And a let down that can't be blamed on the budget, as many low-budget horrors manage far more creative direction and storytelling than this. It is fun though, and enjoyable to watch. Tom Atkins is good as the lead detective, and Bruce Campbell is okay in a fairly weakly written role. As killer cop Cordell, Robert Z'Dar is decent, but the continuity team let him down badly. Why? Because blu-ray shows up the dozens of shots where they've messed up his scarring and makeup. He goes from clean-shaven and unscarred, to hideous weeping scars, to just a nick on his chin, and back again many many times. His hands also vary wildly between scarred as heck and utterly fine. Maybe it wasn't that noticeable on VHS, but it's ridiculously glaring on blu-ray and actively distracts from the film.
I'm a big fan of classic old horrors, including cheesy ones, but it just didn't grab me.
However, that's just me - some people will love it, and for them I'd recommend this as a gorgeous looking copy of an excellently clear print.

This is one of the many horror films from the 70's & 80's That i enjoyed watching,Fair play to Arrow for releasing all these gems on blu ray.The sound and picture on this film are excellent considering the age of the film. It's a pity this company didn't get the job of releasing Candyman, Iv'e just purchased Candyman on blu ray,What a total rip off that is- Still a great film but you get nothing extra,Surely something was available to add to the blu ray, considering the price charged.Perhaps Arrow could now release Maniac Cop 2 on blu ray ?
