United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Mono ), SPECIAL FEATURES: Box Set, Interactive Menu, Multi-DVD Set, Photo Gallery, Scene Access, Uncut, SYNOPSIS: Downed RAF Squadron Leader Jimmy Porter joins Resistance agents Nina and Vincent in wartime France as they attempt to sabotage the activities of the occupying Germans and smuggle stranded airmen to safety. Never certain of whom they can trust, and in constant danger of capture and death at the hands of the SS, they embark on a vital mission to enable Nina - and the valuable information she possesses - to reach England... This tense drama from 1970 captures not only the ever-present fear but also the complex personal dilemmas experienced by those caught up in the tragedy of occupation. A strong cast that includes Robert Hardy (All Creatures Great and Small), Philip Madoc (A Mind to Kill) and Peter Barkworth (The Power Game) and scripts by Alfred Shaughnessy (Upstairs, Downstairs) and Jonathan Hales (The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones) make for compelling viewing; this release comprises all 26 episodes of Manhunt. ...Manhunt - 7-DVD Box Set

AT LAST! FANTASTIC! 25 May 2009
By spike
Format:DVD
Having seen this series as a child ,ive
throughout my life wanted to know how it ended up.
finally after 39 years i can do it,its been a 'manhunt'
of a journey to get to this point, but you really feel like youve
done the trip with Nina,Jimmy and Vincent!(3 main characters)

This series is excellent having watched the 1st 13 Episodes
and been totally gripped (then having to wait a furthur 2 years!)-,the 2nd half is even better .The series is about a downed RAF pilot jimmy and two french resistance workers Nina and Vincent trying to escape back to England.

There is a gripping tension that runs through it all the way!,you never
know what twists and turns it will take-{A very similer quality to the film 'Where Eagles Dare' in this respect, also starring Peter Barkworth}- also the complex relationships between them all keep changing, through trust to suspicion and back again
Its interesting that ive read so many accounts on how it ended but it still
managed to keep me guessing and surprise me.!

Whats notable is that this is one of the few programmes ive seen
that deals with the French Resistance(not seen many on that subject), showing they were made up of communists, patriots etc often at war with each other. On another level its also about how a beautiful woman Nina, (cyd Hayman) destroys every man she deals with, even Jimmy has succumbed
at the end .

i saw some negative comments written on the 1st series and im sorry
i cant agree, the acting is great, obviously Peter Barkworth, but cyd hayman and Alfred Lynch are memorable for me too.Yes ,It is a product of its time but i hope people will overlook that and give it a chance, they will be rewarded,it deserves a new audience.

Im genuinely sad ive reached the end ,its one of the best things ive seen
in a long time, a hauntingly moving ,and powerfull drama.Lets get some reviews in and create a little shrine for this iconic series.Three cheers
for Jimmy, Nina, and Vincent.!!

p.s a couple of minor negatives {A}.pity we have to buy series 1 again to see series 2
{B}felt the 'complete series' could have had more of Beethovens 5th sym at interludes between episodes like the DD HOME ENTERTAINMENT series 1 .{just adds to the drama}

Manhunt at last! 6 Dec 2009
Format:DVD
I used to watch Manhunt when it was on TV in Australia in the 70s. It was on quite late at night and I am an early to bed bird, but always stayed up to watch this program. It was completely gripping! For years I have been searching for DVDs of the series and had begun to wonder if any existed. To my great excitementI finally sourced them at amazon.co.uk and they made their way Down Under incredibly quickly. I am enjoying the series as much as I did in the 70s - I still find them gripping - they are well worth watching all these years later and of course feature quality actors including Peter Barkworth and Robert Hardy. I wholeheartedly recommend Manhunt!

An honest, but failed effort
This was a most promising scenario - all the ingredients were present to make a wonderful story, but the execution was more than disappointing. Read more

Flawed but excellent
Some of the criticisms by other reviewers are true. Manhunt is low budget (though some episodes are pretty pyrotechnic!) and there are some character inconsistencies. Read more

magnificent
Twenty six hour long episodes, so you get value for money - apart from that the length gives the drama a cumulative power which is gripping. Read more

Best in small doses
I remember this series from the early 70s and at the time I found it very exciting. With one episode being screened weekly, you were always wondering what was going to happen next. Read more

Absolutely Delighted!
I moved house in May 1970 to a virtually TV-free north of Scotland, and therefore missed the last 6 episodes of this series - which has niggled at me for the past 40 years. Read more
