I have had this head for about five years and it has been consistently rock solid and still doesn't have any signs of wear. Recently I have been using it on a carbon Fibre mono pod and it does feel heavy compared to the mono pod but allows me to swivel into portrait mode with ease. I think if you are looking for a mid size and cheap head then this is the one to go for.

If I had to say anything negative about it, it would be that the plate could be longer because when a heavy lens is fitted to the camera, the whole lot tends to swivel a bit on the plate. There are replacement plates however, which I haven't tried. I have never been tempted to "over tighten" the screw into the base of the camera.

A little heavier than some but very sturdy. The extra rotational adjustment and lock makes this a much better buy. Great for astrophotography as full vertical view of the night sky is possible.

bought with a carbon fibre tripod, performs really well but is a little heavier than I expected so negates the benefit of carbon fibre for lightness a little bit, apart from that fantastic! If you know what you are getting you won't be disappointed...
