This is a solid tripod which can support a digital SLR and zoom lens upto c. 300mm in landscape mode. It is easy to carry round, and you have confidence to use it with a heavier camera; you can also hold it against a solid support (tree, wall) more easily than the camera alone. On the MTT2 tripod, you need to tighten the nut strongly, so it is probably not suitable for daily use, and the ball movement is very (disappointingly) rough, so certainly not suitable for panning for a video. Even though both Amazon and the Manfrotto website say this has the Manfrotto 492 head (which alone is £5 more expensive than the MTT2 combination), I actually doubt this is very much - I would expect the 492 is smoother, needs less force to lock, and is generally larger and more solid. I bought the MTT2 to replace a well-liked Manfrotto 709 which I lost and looks very similar, but I think the ball head on the 709 was substantially better. Maybe I'll see if I can get a better head for the MTT2 tripod.

3.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat dissappointed! 22 July 2013

I wanted a table tripod and and as I already own a Manfrotto tripod I chose this particular Manfrotto table tripod because looking at the technical specs on the Manfrotto website, I got the impression that I could easily remove the ball head. My plan was to inter-change it with another Manfrotto Ball Head that I already own. This would allow me to keep the baseplate on my camera so that I could easily swap things about. However, I cannot remove the ball-head, I get the impression that by doing so I will damage the unit.

As a result I haven't really used this table tripod, I have it in my bag of camera bits and it is there for other uses if so required.

Great little tripod. I had my Canon 550D with a 55-200 zoom lens on this and it holds it no problem.
Small enough to fit in your bag. Great buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant ! 12 April 2013

Just what I wanted, nice & sturdy, works well with my Nikon D3100. Angled tilt head works fine. Little concerned at first with how to fix the tripod to the camera, found it a bit fingers & thumbs but If you screw the whole tripod when attaching it to the camera it works a treat & is very secure.
