Good value solid mini-tripod for DSLR but probably not the 492 head as described

This is a solid tripod which can support a digital SLR and zoom lens upto c. 300mm in landscape mode. It is easy to carry round, and you have confidence to use it with a heavier camera; you can also hold it against a solid support (tree, wall) more easily than the camera alone. On the MTT2 tripod, you need to tighten the nut strongly, so it is probably not suitable for daily use, and the ball movement is very (disappointingly) rough, so certainly not suitable for panning for a video. Even though both Amazon and the Manfrotto website say this has the Manfrotto 492 head (which alone is £5 more expensive than the MTT2 combination), I actually doubt this is very much - I would expect the 492 is smoother, needs less force to lock, and is generally larger and more solid. I bought the MTT2 to replace a well-liked Manfrotto 709 which I lost and looks very similar, but I think the ball head on the 709 was substantially better. Maybe I'll see if I can get a better head for the MTT2 tripod.

Just what I wanted, nice & sturdy, works well with my Nikon D3100. Angled tilt head works fine. Little concerned at first with how to fix the tripod to the camera, found it a bit fingers & thumbs but If you screw the whole tripod when attaching it to the camera it works a treat & is very secure.

Light weight and easy to tuck away in your bag ready for the day you need it.
Rigid beyond the load you would expect to put on it.
Ideal for a compact or bridge camera but can manage an SLR with short lens.
Not intended for an SLR with long lens but it does just about manage the task IF the load is balanced.
There is no adjustment in the way you can use this little tripod, it is therefore limited to table-top use or similar.
There is an optional extra height extender but I have no experience of it and see little advantage.

Good strong construction. Folds to a small, easily portable unit. The Ball head is simple and quickly operated. Even better than I expected. Amazon up to its normal standard.
